Short tumbling

How does tumbling fit in or apply to 1/2 and 3/4 swings... swings more than pitches but less than full swings?

Define a 1/2 swing. If the normal distance of a 7 iron is 170, what's a 1/2 swing go? 3/4 swings? Or are you talking about a certain shot?

I was thinking in terms of the club/hands not going back as far as a full swing. If you are laying it off in the transition to prep for the tumble on a full swing, what needs to happen in a shorter swing that has a transition earlier than normal?

There's a few ways to hit a less than full shot. One is to hit it lower which shouldn't fly as far, therefore the laying off is standard. The second is to take a full swing with a little less apace so ditto on the laying off. If you like to shorten your arm swing, you'd be wise to just lay it off earlier.
