Looks like most or all of us weekend guys are coming from out of town (I'm from CT). Has anyone decided what to do about a hotel yet? Looks like there's 6 or 7 hotels in Manorville, but I have no clue which ones are nice and/or near the course. If anyone has any recommendations, I'd love to hear em.

-Mike

The best spot is the Holiday Inn Express in Riverhead.

Mike,
it can get real expensive that time year in that area. You might want to give Michael Jacobs a call at Rock Hill. He probably has a pretty good idea where to stay.
I stay with a very close friend in the area when I visit.

Guys I used to work out there and there is no chance you are going to find a hotel in the area in August. If you do find one the price will be ridiculous and the room will be crap. I would look more west there are a few you could find something near Islip airport and it would not be a bad drive to Rock Hill and the price should not be that bad

Can any of you comment on what the traffic is like from the NYC area on weekends? I was about to book a full swing lesson with Mike Jacobs, but my wife suggested that the 3 hour drive from CT could be far, far longer with weekend beach traffic. Thanks very much.

Brutal - Book the ferry from CT to Orient Point then an easy drive to Riverhead.

I think if you man it up, you can make a 8:00 am lesson, leave your house at 4:30 AM and not really have a problem. MJ is worth the drive.
I usually fly in from Florida so my perspective may be askew.

The ferry ride from New London to Orient Point is about an hour and twenty minutes. If you have an early morning lesson the traffic is not that bad, if it is a afternoon lesson it will definitely take you some extra time to get around. Most of the Vineyards are on the North Fork and are very popular destination for people going to do wine tastings. I would highly recommend to take the ferry and book your reservations on the cross sound ferry early to ensure a spot.

Thanks everyone. The only time I could get was 11:30 on Sunday (90 min. full swing lesson). I booked the 8:00 ferry to make sure I get there in plenty of time, and had no trouble getting a return trip a couple hours after the lesson. Can't wait!

Had my lesson with Michael today, which was terrific. Turns out the Port Jefferson ferry is a good bit closer to the course than Orient Point, and is an hour closer to where I live on the CT side, so future trips will be a good bit easier.
