I love the SD pattern especially for the short irons. However, I am really struggling with the upright nature of this swing and mid irons and driver are really suffering (fat shots galore!!).

I don't think I am applying the concepts of the SD pattern correctly since I am certain that many great players use this sort of pattern for all of the clubs.

I guess I am missing a 'shallowing out' type move with this swing pattern?

Might be shallowing too much, just a thought

Maybe...perhaps I am swinging out to the right too much?

The tee shots are killing me right now. I felt that with my old swing, I could solid (face could be doing God knows what) contact but when I try to use the SD pattern with the longer clubs I am hitting it fat.

I wonder if SD works better on your short irons than long irons/woods because you open up your stance enough with shorter clubs but just don't enough on longer clubs and do swing too far right.

I was having the opposite problem - not hitting short irons/ wedges well, while hitting longer clubs very well, all while playing a draw because I was too square in my alignment for shorter clubs -- for my swing; I was hitting all kinds of fat and thin shots with wedges. This was something Brian helped me adjust recently.

It could very well be a posture/stance/alignment issue. Maybe I am lining up very closed with the longer clubs and I can't turn through the shot...?

fat shots with soft draw, to me, means swinging too far right OR having too much tilt and you've "swayed" off the ball to the right and you have no chance of "getting back" to the ball.

Try each one, see which makes the fats go away.
