Somewhat disturbing trend (with pics)

I'm hitting this disgusting, pull-cut hosel shot lately and it's driving me crazy. The range balls leave a little residue and my contact is clearly visible (see pic below for an illustration). Seems that the clubhead is traveling too far left with not enough roll and at too steep an angle? Is axis tilt really a root cause of the high on the face contact?

Somebody set me straight here!

10-4 on the shanks

Yep  Here's the weird part: I shank a ball or two with a semi-basic motion only. For example, when I try and pitch or punch with a 3 or 4 iron - trying to get that feeling of compression.

I hit a bunch of punch shots w/ a 5 iron and shanked a few of those too, but acquired motion is still hosel-cuts.

I hit some of those yellow indoor "safe" balls last night in the house with mixed results. It's clear that I am not turning the clubface off the plane right now.
