Stan Stopa is the head professional at Audubon Park and one of the people responsible for my being able to play golf professionally. He provided the facility for me to play and practice since I was 13 and still to this day. He is playing in the Senior Tour Q School and after three rounds in the regional qualifier, he is in 21st place. They take 24. He is playing at the same course where 30 years ago he doubled the 18th hole to miss his TOUR Card by a shot. As Brian has mentioned on this site before, Stan is one of the best ball strikers ever, not to have played the tour full time. Good luck Stan!

Joe Gutterman, 4th on the list, is a Palm Coast pro who holds the course record on about every course here. What is the next level of competition after this regional?

Where to Next?

Next phase is Finals. Things have changed for this year. There will no longer be 7 fully exempt (used to be 8) and 8 conditional exempt cards available at the finals.

Instead, the top 30 (I believe this is the correct #) finishers will be eligible for "Associate Membership" that will allow them to qualify each week for up to 9 available spots for that weeks tournament (open field events only).

Winners on the Champions Tour only get a 12 month exemption (if they are not otherwise exempt) from the date of the win. If a non exempt player wins, he would reduce the 9 available spots to 8. A new twist this year, is that if a non exempt player finishes in the top 10 one week, he is exempt the following week, again reducing the available qualifying spots each week by 1.

I believe that they will also be doing the "2 spot" qualifiers for each week (used to be 4 spots a while back).

At last!

He made it! Shot a 73 with two putts missed under 3 feet and making a 20 footer for bogey on the 16th. He was in a playoff...5 for 3 spots. Up and down on first hole and then a walk off birdie on the second to be the first to make it in the playoff.
