Standing the club up?

I think there was a thread here some time ago on the need to "stand the club up" at impact. Something that I have tried to do ever since.

Watched Michael Jacob's video analysis of mgranato's swing. This on Mike's forum. Mike asked what his VSP was. Turned out it was quite high. I took that to mean that the hands were coming in to high and clubshaft was getting lined up with the left arm at impact. Then I remembered Mike talking about the need to maintain an angle between the hands and clubshaft.

Went out today and practiced nothing but flicks, returning the hands to what felt like the address VSP. Now I understand. The hands felt uncomfortably low at first but the impacts were solid. Clubhead velocity was high considering there was virtually no body or arm movement.

Another thing to help is to get the hands going straight down in the downswing. As Kevin has said before, feel like putting the hands in your right pants pocket. Allows the club to tumble easier and square the face. With the "flick" and upward moving coupling point, it will help shallow out the angle of attack too. I have struggled with this too as my tendency is to stand the club up and hit way too much down on the ball.
