Statistic Tracking Software/Spreadsheets

Does anyone know of a good software worth giving a look at for keeping statistics? The on TGC.com is worthless.

I'm looking for software that keeps track of everything from fairways/greens hit to proximity from the hole to bounce-back percentage. I'm also looking for one that can process nine hole rounds as well.

Does anyone know of a really good one?

Or has anyone developed a good Excel spreadsheet that could track these things? Paging Jim Kobylinski...

HAHA...responding.

I can build anything you want in excel. You tell me what categories you want and i can bulid it to be all plug and play.

Also, this is something i would do for fun...so if a lot of people would want something like this let's start a list of of what they would like in it and i'll build it.

First stage would be simply building the model to produce the results then making it "pretty" and more user friendly.

Wow. Thanks Jim. The generosity of this forum knows no bounds. :D

I suppose what I'd want is a program that allows me to enter in holes from a round played (9 or 18 holes...or even an odd number like 6 or 12, if that's possible). When entering each individual hole, I'd like to be able to enter data regarding:

- What club was hit off the tee
- Fairway hit or missed (and whether it was missed left or right)
- What club was hit into the green, and whether it was a "normal" shot or a recovery-type shot
- Green hit or missed (and whether it was missed left, right, long, or short or a combination of short and left, etc.)
- Number of putts, as well as putt length
- Whether or not an up-and-down was recorded (i.e. two shots to get it in the hole from inside, say, 40 yards)
- Whether or not a sand save was recorded from a greenside bunker
- Penalty strokes (with OB being 2 penalty strokes) and what shot the penalty was incurred on

I know this a long list and pretty in-depth, but information like this would be great to have. Let me know what you think Jim, and anyone else who has an idea of what other stats could be kept.

As long as its simple to use it could be good info to keep track of.

I happen to have the Eagle edition by just use the software to track my scores. I've had it for a while so my memory isn't clear on this, but you can download the trial package and just use the score tracking part as a stand alone.

Try it. It tracks every conceivable parameter.

Jim,

Can i send you my Game Tracker in excel and have you take a look. You can certainly have it, but I really need someone who can make it do something like keep running totals over several rounds and maybe even do trends.

John

Um....wow LOL

Have you ever heard of "paralysis by analysis" ;)

Yea, I suppose that could be :p . But it'd be cool to see how accurate one is with their driver vs. 3 wood vs. 5 wood/hybrid. Or proximity to the hole with each iron/wedge. Or how good someone is from 50-100 yards. Obviously the stats would have to be kept over a long period of time to see any significant trends, but the PGA Tour has the same type stats with Shotlink, and they really can tell a story (like left rough avoidance statistics, lag putting proximity, conversion inside of 10 ft., etc.).

If it's a bit over the top and too much work, by all means do NOT spend too much time on this. I know you have other work to do (of the real work variety and work on your own game), so please don't feel like all of this is demanded of you. In fact I don't want you to feel like any of it is being demanded of you. They're all just a few things I thought of :).

Jim,

Did the xl file make it to you?

If so, what did you think. Remember, I'm just a dumb golf pro.

Ya i did get it but what format is it in? It downloads fine but i don't know what to use to open it with.

To everyone else, this is my busy time of the year with budgeting and forecasting for the company i work for and it takes up the majority of my time. I do promise to get on this as soon as it slows down. However that probably won't be until roughly end of february.

No worries man. You do what you can. Should one of us (I'll do it if you want) remind you around late February/early March?

Just make sure you select append file extension. It will put .xls after file name. Should work fine for PC then.

It is funny but going from pc to mac never a problem. From mac to pc sometimes is an issue with the pc reading the file. Maybe you have a newer Office version than Jim?

Hey Jim and others,
Wouldn't Microsoft Access be a lot better to use than Excel? I know that most people don't have Access and it is fairly expensive, but as a database program I believe it would do a lot better job if somebody wants to really get into doing this. However, I know that Jim is a lot more advanced in Excel than I am. I have a Mac now and have searched for some of the Database software programs available, but was never sure how extensive they could be used for such purposes. If anybody has used any of the database packages for a Mac, please let me know how robust they are. I would be more than happy to work on such a program.
