Stuck...

Lately, I have a tendency to drop my arms too much when I initiate the downswing, causing me to get under plane, which results in a lot of hooks and blocks. I have kind of a furyk esque swing, I take the club up and out on the backswing and then drop it back in on the downswing. Anybody else suffer from this and have some good ideas as to how to keep the club on plane a little better.

Keep your upper left bicep on your chest in the initial stages of your backswing. They should remain together until the right arm begins to fold. You want to avoid lifting the club from your deltoid (should sockets) as you begin your backswing. When you lift the club from your delts your hands will move away from your body and above the shaft angle plane. You will be forced to use a reverse shift to put the club back on plane. There is no end to a loop (one continuous motion); very difficult to time, especially when under the gun. Just be thankful, however, that you have this type of loop and not the over-the-top variety. It is easier to correct. Practice in front of a mirror. From a down the line view, work the club backwards, upwards and INWARDS while maintaining the proper left bicep and chest feel. Hands will feel that they arm moving in a small circle not a straight line.
Downswing feels: Maitain extensor action with the right arm remaining bent at a right angle while at start down your right should drives through the ball. If you arms are dropping or over-accelerating, you need to work on storing and delivering. Read 6-C-2-A, last paragraph. Good Luck.

You are NOT STUCK...you are Below the plane.

Hit drivers off the ground.

Hit balls with a towel plane board.

Use the Brian foot drill (once worked for David Wayne Toms):

Put your foot in front of your ball facing the target...
...Put a 2nd ball at the 90degree angle intersection of the left side of your foot and the toe...

...hit 'em both!

Having trouble visualizing this. [?]

Brian, I'm also having a hard time visualizing the foot drill, can you draw a picture:) Question, would keeping my right elbow pointing down, solve my problem?? It seems that when I get below plane, my right elbow will get behind me slightly. Thanks for everyones help on this. Hit 4 snap hooks off the tee on Sunday, very frustrating..
