Hi all, I have always fought a sway. My hip and legs shoot the right almost as soon as I start my backswing. I have done the ball under the foot drill and the toes in drill but it never lasts. In your opinion is it something in the setup or how I take I take my backswing? Any advice or drills would be very helpful. Thanks, Walt

i had trouble with that and what helps me is straightening the right knee and flexing the left knee toward the ball AT THE START OF THE BACKSWING...this gets the right hip turning right away without swaying to the right....hope this helps....steven

Not sure if what you are facing is similar to my problem but I sometimes fight a sway on my backswing and subsequent to that on my downswing too.

I have found that it is mostly due to my setup with the feet being too close together. I find that with the wedges, 9i and 8i I can play with the feet being about just inside the shoulder width but from the 7i-5i onwards I swing better with the feet being about shoulder width without any sliding.

As for woods, utility and driver, I normally take a little bit more wider stance due to the longer swing arc.

Hope this helps.

Walt,
Try flaring your right toe outward, it makes it more difficult to roll onto the outside of your right foot..

I used to fight this badly, especially with the driver for some reason. I started just pointing my right knee just a little bit toward my left leg at set-up and haven't had any issues since. Probably not optimal, but it is working for me. One of the few things:D

I realized I was just not making a full pivot on the backswing. The sway goes away when I do. I am not very flexible and it takes some effort to get a full turn. I am working on some stretches and for now just grunt alot when I swing. Any suggestions for stretches to maintain axis tilt on the dowswing?

Walt,

You can help your pivot by extending your right leg on the backswing....this allows the hips to close more, giving you a bigger turn...
