depends on who you ask....

I think the answer could be yes, no, or all of the above depending on who you ask.

I think the backswing is controlled by a pivot and the lifting of your arms, and the downswing is controlled by a pivot and lowering of the arms.

There are a variety of "feels" that different golfers employ to effectively do these things.

Depends on the golfer I think.

One thing to be aware of no matter what golfer you're talking about is.......

There is reality....and then there is feel. Both important but often different.

I will say that in all orthodox swings the right arm lifts as it bends.

However.....I don't like to put my attention on my right arm....to me it means throwaway.

I like to have my attention in my left shoulder. I feel like it's the "locomotive" (i.e. does the work) for my entire swing. Backswing and downswing. (I like to feel like I "hit it" with my left shoulder)

Right now I'm screwing with a different backswing/downswing combo. (hands/hips respectively) It's winter tho and all I have is my garage at the moment. For now it is just an idea. (seems to work well enough for chipping/pitching though)

recently i've heart couples and trevino say they focus on their left shoulder turning as oppposed to the arms just lifting..

BS: I use a right arm pickup (yeah yeah yeah) while bending my right hand back, this move positions my hands to the TOP (right hand barely above my right shoulder).

DS: Pivot-slide to the left, sit into my tilt, right arm in a deep pitch position, push right forearm downswing, allow the left arm to swivel, whoosh in front of the ball.

That's me:)

If you make a good orthodox backswing, you will need to have some clue to what your right arm does.

It will help even more to know what the hands have to do.

But you can feel it anywhere.

I like to tell my students to just take there hands to where they want while they use their body (pivot) for a "power boost."

Merry Christmas to you.

what i'm trying to say is what controls the swing like do you feel like your left hand is the one making the backswing or is the right or both meaning does the left hand push and eventually lift the club all the way to the top or does the right hand pull it all the way to the top or is it both hands initiate it all the way to the top!!!on the downswing, same question goes!while making the backswing, do you feel like your left hand is the only one controlling the club or is it the right or both?

Here's my two cents.

Tough question. Too many feels can be described and they are always changing or evolving. I think you could focus on either are/hand and do okay.

1. The pivot gets the arms moving. Your belly button moves before the clubhead does. Brian refers to it as "work" in the good sense. I think it is in "Flipper."
2. You will need to train your right arm to want to stay long. When you can do this you won't need to think about it anymore. Your right arm keeps your left arm straight-ish.
3. On the downswing hit the crap out of the ball. Use your hands, body, buttcheeks, whatever. If you can take a divot (iron shot) on the target side of the ball and the ball doesn't curve too much, you are onto something and bet all of your buddies, cause you'll kill'em.

Merry Christmas

I notice some better players seem to drive by hitting down with driver which sends the ball like it is on a string from low to high while drawing. I like this trajectory but can't figure out how they do it.
Anyone have any ideas for me to try. My current ball flight is just straight and high with no low to high rise and no draw.
