swinging - focusing on arm/body connection instead of right forefinger pressure

I've noticed that my % of flips is rather high when I try to concentrate on sensing lag pressure in the right forefinger. It usually causes a right arm early resease.

On the other hand, If I focus on getting my hands to the top and simply "staying connected" (#4 pp I think) whilst pivoting like crazy it usually results in an ok stroke.

Most of what I've read tells me #3 is the golden ticket but it leads me to nothing but trouble.

I've had a lesson w/ Brian and I continue to use the pattern that he and I talked about but I need something more than "hips, hands, clubhead" to avoid the flip.

Help would be appreciated.

misses

When I stay connected the ball flight is straight and normal (not to high, not too low). I feel "compression". When I don't my ball flight is low and erratic. Most common miss with "compression" is a pull w/ irons and a push w/ driver. Most common miss on a shitty shot is a slice.

Brian cured me of the hooks and got me cranking my driver pretty good. Unfortunately I can't get my driver out of a wet paper bag. I may still swing too far right. Not sure.

I usually take a normal divot on compressed shots, less so on others.

Are you trying to increase your lag pressure pp3 sensation or merely to sustain the initial amount of lag pressure sensation?

My guess is that you are trying to increase it ...and that is leading to throwaway...

Pivot like crazy is still good idea...no reason why you can't do that as you sense pressure...

I think connection happens if you do the other things correctly...if your hands are training and you pivot big...then the arms will be connected but not rigid.

Bonesy,

I can personally confirm your "better impact" by focussing on pp4....
If you want to minimise flipping do the three finger overlap grip drill (three fingers overlapping, instead of one---this is just a swing drill).....this will help you time and FEEL the clubhead thro the impact zone better, and if you like you can then go to a two finger overlap, which you can actually play with, and once you are comfortable (if you choose) go back to your normal grip.......soft hands bud..:)

When focusing on #3 my intent is to feel and maintain the pressure. Maybe my desire to maintain the pressure rather than just feel it causes me to act like Lennie from Of Mice and Men and twist the lag's head off.

I play my best when I have no idea where my arms, hands, pressure points are, i. e. I'm not thinking and analyzing, just playing the shots.

This is pretty much all true for me as well.

One of the reasons why I think the FEELS of "hitting" vs. "swinging" can be helpful (even though every good golf swing combines both force along and across the shaft) is that for me a focus on PP#4 leads to much better contact (and NO FLIP!) than a focus on PP#3.
