Takeaway and right Wrist

In Never Slica Again! 2.0 and Building Blocks (Beta) - Brian advises an immediate right wrist bend to begin takeaway, but in Do It Right (Beta) he suggests no wrist involvement when beginning takeaway - Which is correct or preferred?

Hey a really good question!

Shef,

You are very observant.

For players who NEED to learn to GET a flat or slightly arched left wrist at the top, and NEED to HAVE a flat wrist at the top of their backstrokes (for a variety of reasons)....

They need to FLATTEN it as soon as posible.

For players who have ALREADY LEARNED to have a Flat Left Wrist at the top, and NEED to have a flat wrist or slightl;y bent at the top of their backstrokes (for a variety of reasons)....

There is no need to flatten it early, and the decision of the WHERE to "get their hands in their top of the backswing conditions" should be based on OTHER COMPONENT relationships relative to THEIR stroke patterns.

Remember...once you can make a basic "swing"...

Everything should be completely customized for YOU!!!

How do we bend the right wrist and still swing the club "up"? For those of us who get the club behind us too quickly on the backswing, how do we flatten the left wrist and make sure we get the proper arm position at the top? Any swing thoughts or drills?

The pivot gets it started in my swing. By beginning the pivot first, I don't get the club behind me too quickly.

"Pivot Powered Hands Controlled Pivot."

My thought is to bury the right shoulder as deep as possible to begin the backswing

Do it right!

Like glcoach, I use the pivot to motor the takeaway, then when the left hand turns "into" or "against" the right hand, it (rh) will bend back, this in turn activates the right forearm bend up. If trained, correctly, this whole mechanism, done in this sequence, will complete the backswing of arms and shoulders through its natural momentum.

There is a certain PP sequence in the hands that makes this very easy to learn.

Bending.

Doger.

Have you ever seen "Building Blocks"?

In that video, I show how bending the RIGHT WRIST and the RIGHT ELBOW can move the clubhead and shaft ALL BY THEMSELVES perfectly on plane.

Why wouldn't they.

Well if you ADD something ELSE then you might wind up "below the plane."
