Tell you about my year

This not about bragging but what some swing changes have done. The first half of the year I was playing with different takaways and not finding anything I felt comfortable with, I asked alot of questions. I did not play well at the canadian amateur shooting 81-73. I came home and read some old posts about the drag takaway, I started to work on dragging the club and making sure I turned my right shoulder (I'm right handed ) as much as I could with out breaking down the lower body. Once I was comfortable with this I changed my thoughts on the downswing to keeping the left shoulder going up and back this makes the right shoulder go back and down and keeping the left arm attached as long as I could. It felt like more of a left sided downswing but tring hard not to open the shoulders to soon. I wanted to feel closed at impact with the upper body. My flight changed from a steep weak fade to a much more powerful draw the started slightly right and came back to the target. From the middle of the year I won 4 amateur events ,my second player of the year, with the highlight making it to the semi-finals of the canadian mid amateur. My advice for people using the golf machine is don't over complicate things, make one change practice it until you have it and then work on something new. Keep your swing thoughts to a minimal. The beauty and the beast of forums like this is that there is so much new info we want to incoperate everything at once and that does not work.Take things in progression . To have a forum and somebody like BRIAN that takes his own time to help us is priceless. I thank you BRIAN for the last couple of years answering my questions. TIM YORKE

'MAKE THE EDIT' sounds like you are telling me. My 'feeling 'again is at the start of the downswing my left shoulder is up not left and the feeling of the left shoulder giving me more tilt backwards. I was always concentrating on the right shoulder when the left gets the job done as well. Turning the right shoulder as much as I can is far more effective than concentrating on the left shoulder making the turn. These are feelings and may not do what I think but these are 'my' swing thoughts. I have found that when using the drag takaway for me is more effective if the downswing is down using the bigger muscles where by before I had trouble with it because I found I was using my hands in the transition, in my experience hands break down too much under pressure, that is me and may not be others.

Ok, a couple things:

1) i chose a bad word, you don't have to be all pissy about it. Sorry.
2) did you not notice the " ;) " after it making it mean "in jest?"
3) this is what you said, "...downswing to keeping the left shoulder going up and back this makes the right shoulder go back and down." That has nothing to do with feel.

I'll stay out of your thread now

Now, Now, Am I going to have to sing John Lennon's..."Give Peace a Chance" song to promote harmony and manionship on this board?

Sorry but what was your point of responding to my post? I'm not pissed at you . The only thing I got from your post was to critize what I was feeling, you could have asked if I meant the left up/in but I took it as your wrong what you feel, you made a typo and make the change. If you had said you feel that but what is probably happening is this I would have said you might be right. I am really not pissed at you but I would rather see someone add something positive than a negative even if it was "in jest" TIM

Impressive!!!!!!!!!! Great job Tim.........

AMEN..............

Old picture, I will stop the nonsence with JIM . For me the drag takaway has done wonders. It has been kind of strange not needing any emergency help. The dunvegan dancers are my wife's group. I have finally got an equipment deal as an amateur lately (B'stone) things are good. TIM

Try leading the club with your right shoulder, I have found it much easier to feel like the right shoulder is the first to move, TIM

Had some success with the drag takeaway, but started swaying too much. Sure, I was obviously doing it wrong but my problem is flat takeaway, over axis tilt and too much from the inside, so I went to a static head swing.

Probably can;t get a swing sequence for a while , next time I see the new teacher I started with I will post one. The sway is something that this takaway wants you to do. This may sound weird but what I did to overcome this was to actaully feel like there is alot of weight on the left side going back and once I am at the top them 80% of the weight is there. I did do alot of mirror work to make sure I did not sway off the ball. I think you can stay centered providing you make the right shoulder gets behind you. From the front view of my swing I can finally see the right shoulder on the back swing. This winter I will do alot of strecthing to get the big shoulder turn and less hip turn. Try this concentrate on turning using the old left shoulder to get behind the ball, and then use your right shoulder to get behind and tell me what the bigger turn is . TIM

The trick to making a full core shoulder takeaway while staying centered is for the tailbone to move closer to the target. This must happen because the spine is not in the center of the torso, but rather on the outside of it. If you do this, there is no need to restrict the hip turn.

I don't get it Joe.

If you keep your head still and rotate your shoulders, the entire spine moves - you don't rotate around the spine, but rather around a centerline through your neck. If you don't believe it, get in your golf stance and put your fore and middle finger tips on the large vertebrae at the top of your spine. Now, keeping your head still and hips centered, rotate your shoulders. Your fingers will move toward the target on the BS and back to the right on the DS. The tailbone moves even more.

Interesting post Tim.
Are you familiar with Peter Croker. I am just looking at some of is tapes. He also seems to advocate a clubhead goes last takeaway that looks like the clubhead is dragged bag straight and the hip turn (turn in a barrell no sway here) sort of gets the loading of the wrists witht he correct hinging.
Is this what you are referring to?
btw where in Canada are you?
