For those of you who may not know, I am a musician.

Like 99% of all drummers, I was born that way :D. I pulled out the pots and pans, covers and all, and used the wooden spoons when I was less than 3 years old. I got my first "set" for Christmas just after I turned 3, and got my last set last winter.

Anyhoo, I played in bands in my youth, and retired from the biz at 25.

I made a comeback of sorts in 2000 in the Karaoke bars of Louisville, Kentucky, where I eventually MCed the #1 show in town, and was the only Italian, Y'at, Country Singer in North America.

So, I thought I'd kick this "Clubhouse" era off with some YouTubes of my favorite musician of all-time.

Hope you agree.

Nobody ever gives him credit, but Prince absolutely shreds. There was a VH1 thing dedicated to him a few years back and he performed once and ripped then as well. Really talented entertainer.

That solo is easily in my top 5 of all time. Back 1991-1992 his music was a little suggestive for 10-11 year old, and that IS all anyone talked about. Then the whole "slave" thing with sony came out, and brought attention to something other than the music. I listen now to and just think wow, he is a genius. BTW, he plays every instrument on all his albums.

PACO DE LUCIA , John McLaughlin , AL DI MEOLA

These guys are just crazy good. Playing Flamenco or Gypsy type music is probably the most difficult style to play and these guys make it seem easy...

I saw them several times in the 80s, including the one that became the album A Friday Night in San Francisco Live. Best guitar playing I have ever seen.

Songs in the Key of Life and Superstition are two of my all-time faves.

I'm more of a classic jazz fan. When I think drummers, I think "Max Roach" because the Clifford Brown and Max Roach Quintet stuff is close to my favorite.

I think one of the best Mark Knopfler

I saw Al Dimeola back in the early nineties at Max's on Broadway in Fells Point. (Baltimore ) Most incredible guitar playing I had ever seen. His hands moved so fast I could hardly see them! Halfway through the set, he starts playing bongos! Then, I really couldn't see his hands:eek: That's what happens when gifted meets thousands of hours of practice! I saw Mark Knopfler as well, those two are about as good as it gets!

I saw Return To Forever in the early 80s and all four members - DiMeola, Stanley Clark, Chick Corea did electronic drum solos along with their drummer Lenny White. Like you said, Al's hands were amazingly fast.

Al could be a great percussionist too if he wanted to.

Mark Knopfler is great, saw him before anybody knew who Dire Straits was in the USA, and again after they hit it big. I would love to see Knopfler and DiMeola together.
