Diggerdog becomes a man
from diggerdog

----------------------------------------------------------------------
At 41, I thought I was a man. I have gone through all the rights of passage required to enter this world of manhood. I have fought other men, both as a victor and loser. Been a lover of women, married one along the way. I've walked down the aisle of a church, committing to walk a higher path. Sean the birth of my 3 children, clipped the cord and all. Seen my hair turn from brown to brown and gray. Seen a 29 inch waistline expand to 36. Seen less of what lies below it. All these things that would make me think I am a man. but I stand here today saying that, yesterday, for the first time, I swiveled. Is there anything left?

run,

The student must TRY to do something unrealistic to get the desired result. He must use the pivot to get his hands so far forward that when the angle releases it SEEMS that the face of the club will be facing the ground when impact occurs, and the ball will TRULY be driven into the turf. Most people have a difficult time doing that and will do a panic flip having gotten in the correct position, rather than let CF throw the clubhead into the ball. Their subconscious will simply not allow them to do it. So the intention and goal in development has to be focused on simply burying the ball and the real objective of getting the ball in the air forgotten. Then after having successfully done it, the real work begins, because the success will almost always redirect the attention back to the real objective and away from the artificial goal which brought the success, i.e., regression. One remedy is to not allow the student to watch the ball after contact, but only feel the mash, hear the ground thunder, and look at the divot. He must be convinced to disregard the forward and upward clubhead movement in the downswing.

The instincts every hacker are to catch the ball at the bottom of the arc and make a targetward hand effort. I know this because I did it for years!

Since you can't vote for your own nomination. I'll vote for EdZ just because anybody so full of themselves to nominate one of their own posts needs a little love. :)

I vote for Brian Manzella's post about the "Never Hook Again" video when he talks about Leadbetter telling every student to squat into the right leg at the top and a bunch of chops shanking it.

This reminds me of a wonderful scene from the great British sitcom, The Office. David Brent is the manager of the company, and is filling in an appraisal questionnaire with an employee, Dawn.

Brent: If you had to name a role model, something who’s influenced you, who would it be?

Dawn: What like a historical person?

Brent: Nope, just in general life…something who’s been an influence on you.

Dawn: Well, I suppose my mom. She’s strong, calm in the face of adversity. I remember when she had hysterectomy, and

Brent: yeah, yeah….if it wasn’t your mother though…it doesn’t even have to be a women. It could be a …

Dawn: a man?

Brent: yeah, a man

Dawn: well, I suppose if it was a man, then it would be my father

Brent: not your father. Lets take your parents as read. I’m looking for someone in the…sort of the work related arena.

Dawn: Well I suppose Tim then.

Brent: He’s a friend, isn’t he? Not a friend…someone in authority.

Dawn: Well Jennifer then.

Brent: I thought we said not a women, didn’t we?

Dawn: Umm…well, ok…I suppose you’re the only one who…

Brent: Oh...that’s embarrassing…that’s backfire isn’t it? Oh dear…very flattering. Can we put me? I dunno…

Dawn: Well, put Tim then.

Brent: We said not Tim. So do you want to put me or not?

Dawn: ok then…

Brent: ok, should I put ‘strong role model’?

Dawn: ok

Brent: good…

"What Brian Manzella teaches"

"Neutral" Under-the-heel pad Grip.

90 degrees through the belt-line posture and 'hand height' with parallel-to-the-ground neck.

Very Slight right side bend at address, only enough to get the right hand lower and the right elbow slightly bent.

Early 'set' for beginners/slicers/and recovering hackers, much later set for good players.

Left thumb supported Flat left wrist at the top.

Around-the-SPINE backswing pivot.

Ground-up Down-cocking.

Student-by-student determination of single downswing plane or shift to the elbow plane.

As much trigger delay as needed...no problem with maximum, but no-way with fulll-sweep (early) release.

Throw-the-drunk-off pivot action.

"MASHED" impact with slightly arched wrist.

Pure swingers, Pure Hitters and Four-barrel golfers accepted.

Full-roll for drawers, angled hinge action for pure hitters and faders only.

Finish with left thumb under the club at the finish.

Note: It has been said that LOTS of people teach what I teach...

Funny thing is, outside of students of mine, I don't know of ANY...

Maybe someone can find a teacher on the net or not who teaches the above list...maybe not.

My vote is for this

"Through impact your left wrist needs to remain flat and your right wrist bent (PIC 7).

The clubface needs to turn toward the ground past the ball on the way to pointing toward the target. This swivel position should consist of a still flat left wrist and a ‘fully rolled’ whole left arm (PIC 8)."

from the "Never Slice Again" article with the pics 7 and 8.

I would add to that....

Make sure your left thumb halts the club at the top.

I'd guess Hogan would agree.... EdZ

This "contest" is just another example of whats wrong with this site. Promises are made, the rules get changed midway thru and there is no follow thru and completion of anything. It's just allowed to fade away and hope no one ever notices. I know a lot of people here think Brian is the greatest thing since sliced bread, and in person working on your swing he may be, but after spending over a year and a half on this site. I can honestly tell you, I wish I had never found it and I sure as the world wish I hadn't spent money on it, good luck to all of you.
