I was always wondering why such a very flexible guy (as Snead was reported to be) needed to lift his left heel off the ground. Just to accent "squashing the bug" more ?

Cheers

I think it shows that he got some of his rhythm from the left heel rising and falling...

Do people think he would do it differently if he was a 20 year old rookie on the PGA tour?

He swings from the feet. Listen to Padraig talk about how his swing was transformed by Torrance. Better footwork is what he was taught. You really see it in this video of Snead.

Best I ever saw.

Even of Snead.

Whoa!
There is first the buckling of the lead knee towards the target and the sitting action into the knees resulting in the typical Sam Snead bow legged appearance.

Then in an effort to raise the center of the swing, to squeeze a bit more speed out of the swing, the knees subsequently sort of snap together and showing an inward buckling of the knees.

Knees separate an then come together again, very pronounced action.

The lead foot really spins out a lot beyond impact. Probably consequence of the lead knee locking action.

Very nice swing...and footage. But I don't think I understand your amazement Brian. I am missing something I think.

You're not the only one double_bogie_man. To these "untrained, don't know anything about the golf swing eyes", it doesn't look that great. The foot action seems all over the place and nothing really sticks out that says, "GREAT SWING!" But like I stated above, I know nothing (about the golf swing).

classic double shift, flattest left wrist at the top ever, great back pivot, centre stays perfectly still, the great sam snead power generating squat, minimal forward leaning shaft with FLV left wrist, classic bent left flat right swivel and probly the best kinetic chain snapping action i've seen in a whie.

this swing won 84 tornaments (after a few were taken away from him) and he was the longest hitter of his time. everyone likes to say how long lil ben hogan hit it, but snead was always longer

So was Snead long because he snapped his chain good?

That is part of the reason but basically Snead was longer than Hogan because he had a bigger turn and he had awesome freedom and timing with it. And he was a bigger person physically than Hogan. Snead's drives on par 5s were in the ball park of 280, Hogan 250-260. Add 40 yards to that to compare to the modern era. Back then for normal pros a 350 yard par 4 was a driver 8 iron, instead of driver pitch shot.
