The left arm on putting

Left arm always swinging and right arm driving - does it apply to putting or .....

The design of the putter is not exactly the same as the iron, we do not have to allow the clubface to rotate.

Can we just use our left arm to balance the club ( Basically just hold on to the club and do nothing). The stoke only done by the right arm.

Yup...do this:

Practice putting left handed only. You'll notice as the putter goes back it will slightly open and come back to square at impact (ideally) and then slightly close (kinda like an angled hinge) on the follow through.

Now here's the tricky part, try putting right handed only WITH A BENT RIGHT WRIST ;). Only way to solidly strike putts is with a driving right arm without unbending that right wrist.

I think this is a fallacy...unless you have a very short/upright putter with a manipulated stroke to not allow the putter to rotate open/closed (slightly), ala pelz and straight back and straight through. Because the putter is on an incline it has to rotate, you are on an inclined plane. This is one reason why LONG PUTTERS (not bellies) work so well because they are literally almost a vertical plane which will allow straight back and straight through with no manipulation.

YES SIR! Setup in an impact fix for putting with a litthe more drop of the right shoulder to create a little more bend in the right arm. So you should have a flat left wrist, a bent right wrist, a bent right arm and a dropped right shoulder.

Now use your #3 PP to take the club by bending that right arm a little more and then to strike the ball simply drive that right arm (meaning unbend the right arm into the ball) WITHOUT un-bending the right wrist.

^^^^Done correctly will have a different looking finish position than a left arm/swinging type putt. You'll finish at both arms straight with what looks like an abbreviated follow through.

Let me know how it works. Sometimes when i'm having a hard time leaving putts SHORT i'll switch to the right arm driving type of putt.

See, this is why I am saying that you know how to putt...

But one think I had quoted incorrectly was about the rotation of the putter head. THe putter head does rotate. Even though the shaft is running on the shaft plan, due to the fix centre, the putter head must be travelling on an arc form and sort of rotate a little bit.

Straight back straight through is possible as mention in Pelz book. Provide that we are having strong incline angle and the putter should be dangling under the chest...Yes sir, the boomstick would be the case as it is dangling virtually under the chest....

No doubt about the setup v.s the impact fix position. Both Chipping and putting setup are very close to the impact fix, as the force requiremnt are relatively low, and the time from takeaway to impact is short too.

I find that it is easier to putt with just the right hand, with the left arm just balancing the club. It will be a lot easier to generate the lag.

Jim, what do you think of the following then...

I put crosshand and I have been putting so bad I went back to how I use to practice. I practice left hand low only with no right hand on the club. The first few times the putter goes all over the place back, but coming through is smooth and the putts roll perfect and even make quite a few from 10 ft. Actually putt better than with both hands.

I put quite a few this way then put the right hand back on and the putts are so much better than before.

I heard and I actually try left hand low putting in the past. Directional wise was OK, but it is so difficult to working on distance.
Left Hand low is so difficult to generate Lag.
