"The Release" comes to life.....

Can someone point out the "flick" in those two swings? I also don't see the left wrists bending post impact, just them swiveling into finish.

Those are two very good swings, and not seeing the before pictures its hard to say what was changed, but the finished product looks very great to my untrained eyes.

Not trying to be provokative, but the two swings look quite similar: also similar to Brian's own swing. Anyone got a specific reason for this?

So do we have an ETA on when the rest of us can buy some videos? I'll never be around a lesson stop. Just "estimated" would be nice.

We weren't swiveling. My left wrist was really bent and the club was up my right arm at last parallel post impact. Same with Mike.

I see a lot of differences in the swings. Mike gets the club up his right arm quicker post impact. I think I am a touch more extended into the finish.

Takeaway and backswings are different. I am more in and up than Mike, who has more of straight back takeaway.

Mike swings the driver 120. My 108 max doesn't touch that.

To me, learning to hit down and not take beaver pelts for divots is a big deal. Scraping the ball off the turf, IMO, adds a lot of consistency to the strike.

The wedges and into the wind shots are just a variation of what we were working on in the video. Basically a mid solish shot with longer clubs to shorter targets into the wind. A lot of fun to practice.

Jared...you say that you are learning to hit down...for me this implies a steeper angle of attack...a steeper angle of attack makes me think deep divots...

How do you get steeper and only scrape the ball of the turf?

Geoff, I have always hit down...too much. I am learning the proper attack angle (roughly 4 degrees down with a 7i).

The whole trick is time the flick which pulls the handle in. I know that sounds odd but is the whole key to the release.

Just to piggy back on Jared's answer, I would also tend to hit down too much. My fix was to get the clubhead lower sooner. Get it going into the ground behind my right foot so I could pull it out of the ground with some jump and extension. Felt amazing and fast through the ball.

mgranato - how 'bout saying a few words 'bout them wedge shots and “into heavy wind” shots?

I don't want to say too much about these shots because they would be the hardest for me to describe with just words, no doubt I would butcher it. The basic deal is that the kinetic sequence is nearly reversed from a full swing, but they "look" fairly similar.

Wow, glcoach's (Jared) swing really looks different!

Jared, just looked at some of your swings from youtube. I noticed the difference through impact (last parallel to impact) but the most striking difference I saw was actually from impact to your finish. Is there anything you are consciously trying to do different there? Or is it just a result of what came before? Looks really solid to my eyes.

What's the difference between a "flick" and a "flip" - you've got me wondering?

My basic definition is that a "flip" is the unintentional release--straightening of the right wrist and extension of the left wrist for a right handed golfer--prior to impact with the subsequent loss of ideal golf club alignment at impact.

I am just trying to get the club up my right arm as soon as possible post impact. Toss, if you like.

I consciously don't feel like I am doing too much differently. Just more toss in a different direction that I was used to.

Burner...does it look like I am flipping to you? It shouldn't, my left wrist is flat as a pancake at impact, so was niblicks, so was Mike's and so was Mike's dad. The only difference is I am not trying to hold it flat post impact..

I still feel like I have a bit too much tug with the pivot around impact. It is something I am going to work on in addition to the toss in the lesson.

I hit a lot of balls today and really hit it well.

It looks really good and much more athletic. Were you on trackman at all? Have you seen any difference in distance?

Trackman was out the whole time during the lesson. A bit of an uptick in distance. The biggest difference is curve. Less curve and more zeroed out.

Still swinging 4 to 6 degrees inside out. Something else I need to work on. The big thing is getting the sweet spot path out more to prevent the underplane tendencies I have.

I didn't think my swing was bad before but learning to release it better has made my overall swing better.

You had a nice swing before but this looks like a nice upgrade to me.
