The search for new blades.....

Wishon is good. Only problem is that most people want to buy the stuff that the pro's hit. I have friends that walk into a store, hit the Nike driver and buy it after 5 swings. One friend was even hitting a cheaper club BETTER but still bought the Sumo. Most "hackers" have never even heard of Wishon. Get fit from somebody who knows what they are doing, can't go wrong with Wishon.

PS Screw the re-sale value thinking!

Just wondering what you guys thought abouth the Wishon MB irons. I noticed that alot of people don't mention Toms stuff, and Im curious as to why. I have never hit them and I don't even know that I could tell you the difference even if I did. Are they not popular because of re-sale value, or do you guys just not dig em? No pun intended.

Wishon irons are not available at most golf shops...or at least the ones I go to.

You nailed the exact reason. People want to hit what the pros hit because they think they're better. Why are pros playing a certain brand. Because they are being paid. Wishon and the likes can't afford to pay players these days so therefore they don't become popular. Tom Wishon invented many of todays technologies in clubs and people used to buy his designs while not knowing it when he worked for the big oems but now that he's on his own he might not seem like a player in the game. I have a mitchell loft/lie in the garage and bend clubs for buddies and you wouldn't believe how crappy oem quality control is. Actually I'm going to stop here, I don't even want to get worked up about what a freakin scam todays clubs are.....

EXACTLY- he wants fitters to sell them so the customer gets the correct fit and they play the best for each individual. Do you really buy golf clubs off the rack?

No.

I tried some of the clubs out and then eventually got fitted thru a clubfitter using Trackman and they are re-checking the lies and lofts before I get them.

Believe me, I know all about the poor QC at OEM's.

Miura makes the best blades I have ever hit. I have been playing Mizuno for years and have had multiple opportunities to hit Miura blades. I would own them if I could afford them. $1200.00 is a bit steep for me, but if you want the best you've got pay for it. I would rather spend the extra $400.00 on some time with the Manzellian.

I've heard the same thing about Miura's feel, but am in the same camp as far as what I'll pay for a set of irons.

I picked up a barely used set of KZG zero offset musclebacks a couple of months ago for $225. Nice feel and a great looking head. The existing shafts in them aren't quite right for me so there waiting for a re-shafting. No way I could justify an extra grand to go the Miura route.

Thanks niblick.

Here are excerpts...

..."Dr. Aaron Zick...explained why any club that has perimeter weighting is harder to clubface manipulate than one with evenly distributed weight. Now we know why Tiger, Johnny, Jack, Arnie, Sam, Ben, Byron, and Bobby, all used this type of iron.

....As an engineer (BS in Aeronautics) I have been trying to tell people this since I started playing golf. It just made sense to me given my knoweldge of physics and dynamics. While MOI does resist twisting on off-center hits, it also makes clubface control MORE difficult. Not less! Now I can say that even a respected PhD in the golf industry agrees. Ever think that maybe some of those off-center hits you need forgiveness for are because you are having a hard time controlling the clubface??? Blades are not the devil. They are the instruments of real golf swings.

...regarding the cb or muscleback designs: the mb would be the one for clubface control, which to me would be to work the ball more. but if not hitting the sweetspot, wouldn't the cb still be more preferred?

My questions:

Regarding today's golf balls, they basically go straighter today. Does this make blades even more important (or less) for shot shaping?

Still wondering the differences when one switches from cavity to blades or vice versa and what impact it had on your game...

Are blades that much less forgiving?

Is feel, the feedback from blades different than some of the newer forged cavity backs?

Scratch SB-!

Anyone looking for some impressive blades should take a peek at the Scratch SB-1's.

You get to specify bounce, trailing edge profiles, and leading edge profiles.

A buddy of mine plays these and they are serious tools of the trade. I have hit them and they are pure. They also offer the KBS Tour shaft as an upgrade.
