The Seduction of More Distance

How do you all deal with the Seduction of More Distance? I have worked hard to learn to control the ball and to be able to execute shots that are as straight as possible. Then I get seduced by trying to develop more clubhead speed and start tinkering with my swing, trying to find more trigger delay, trying to hit BS hooks, etc. I then undo all the work that allowed me to deliver the club on plane with ok clubface control.

I keep going to practice or playing a "practice round" and trying this stuff. It then takes a week or more to undo the damage. How do the forum members and Manzella staff deal with this seductive lady?

Unless you are really long, distance is always seductive. Personally I don't fight against wanting more distance (I am pathetically short). :).
How to do it is another issue.

Tinkering hinders progress.
Being a golf theorist hinders progress.
Having too much 'good' information hinders progress.

I love distance and want more off it!

I cracked my 4 iron 240 yards last week using my variation of Brian's NHA pattern.

There isn't a golfer alive that doesn't want to strike the ball long and straight. A control game is best played with distance.

Self- I hear you, but I tinker constantly :)

I've spent the last 10 years tinkering! It's fun to take new ideas and work with them, but it doesn't help you get better. I think that TGM is dangerous for golfers that constantly tinker...

I just keep tinkering and narrowing things down.......I'm getting better....and I refuse to settle for anything that only half-assed works.

I have enough distance now i feel, i'd said i can hit the ball a little further than the average touring pro in all clubs. I think if you can swing a driver in the 112-115 range that's plenty of distance to be competitive even on 7000+ courses.

Just comes down to how accurate you are and can you putt?

This is no joke and I wouldn't have believed it myself if it wasn't me but in three weeks time I have gained a solid 8 m.p.h with the driver with no discernible difference in accuracy. There was a thread some time ago on here that basically said you can only swing as fast as your hand and arm strength will allow and I've never had what you would call big forearms so what helped me achieve this? The speedchain. I know it looks silly and it's hard to believe in it but I'm telling you it works. I'm now longer than I've ever been by far and it's still hard to believe. I do 5 sets of 10 reps every other day. I'm sure I'm at a level off period so I'm going to get fitted for a new driver this weekend as the current one is starting to give me too much backspin with the new speed, but what a problem huh?

Sometimes i wonder if it's the strength you get from those type of workouts or it's the MECHANICS those things get you in.

I gained all kinds of swing speed when i learned how to get my right shoulder down to the ball with more delay.

I've been reading the speedchain forums for about a month and the creators seem to think it works your fast twitch fibers in the muscles. They advise against normal strength training for speed. By your post I can tell you've never swung one(and with your speed you probably don't need it) because everything is just faster and you can feel it. The first couple weeks you really have to work on balance because the swing is much faster. That said, they say they've seen BIG increases in a short amount of time with beginners because you basically can't flip with this thing so beginners get kind of a two fold advantage. From the forums I get the idea around 5 to 10 m.p.h. is typical. Besides all the great info from Brian and staff this is the only thing that has EVER made a significant change in my game. Go havesies with a buddy and try one. You could be 120 to 130:)

shortgamer...

What kind of room do you need to practice with that thing? Looks like a lot.

PS Sorry for the threadjack

How does the swing chain work? One their website all I see is a grip with a chain on attached to the middle of it. Wouldn't a heavy pipe work just as well?

I'm guessing that my swing speed has to be around 120mph because of my 4 iron carry distance. I just need more consistency. I'm either fully dialed in or completely hacking it up!

I believe if you go to their website you can download a video showing how it works.
