They are selling crazy at the PGA Superstore

I can’t remember if I posted this or not.

I was in Dallas over the July 4 weekend and had the opportunity to go the PGA Superstore to get my putter bent. Well, while I was there, I wanted to get my driver swing speed tested so I got set up on one of their simulators. Keep in mind I now play a straight ball-baby fade and have not hooked a driver in 9 months.

I hit 20 drives into that net thing at between 98-103 MPH……all 30-45 yard hooks according to the computer. I was making my normal pass at the ball and my alignments felt normal as well. I just could not believe it and I bet my buddy $20 bucks their machine was wrong.

We went out to the range the next day and I took out my HiBore Tour driver and hit 10 5 yard fades in a row with the same force as I did in the store, and collected my $20 bucks.


How can that machine be that far off? Even when I swing too hard on the course I hit a push-cut, never a hook, let alone a 30-45 yard hook.

The store had lots of nice things in it but those simulators are crap.

They jack around with the distances too....On their simulators 210 yard 6 irons are the norm (a nutted 6 iron goes 185 for me), but only 250 or so with the driver both carry and roll; my carry, according to sky caddie is around 255 or so and I normally get another 15-20 yards in roll. Most of the time on the simulators I hit a 19* hybrid as far as the driver...It really makes you wonder.

My theory is they build their inventory with lots of high lofted "r" flex stuff and calibrate their machines accordingly with the driver....They just try to make you feel like a stud with the irons/hybrids so you will buy them.

I have the same issue at Golf Galaxy...On their simulator, If I hit a drive over 210 yards, it's a cause for celebration, and I normally hit about 260 with carry & roll on the course! Plus, I hit straight to a fade, and a miss for me is a push to the right. On the monitor, I hook nearly everything The worse part about it is that if I go there on a Saturday to demo a driver, I will have a horrible round on Sunday, guaranteed

Ha...........maybe I shouldn't cry out conspiracry theory................but there's lots of slicers who would probably like to hit a nice new set of shiny irons with their same slice swing and then look up into that simulator and see it go straight or draw.

Everything has to be just right for some of those monitors to work properly. Usually, you can't switch back and forth between driver and other clubs, because they use audio feedback to determine when the camera snaps the picture. For the hooker, it could be that you aren't aiming the same way, because you are inside and theres no real target. Ultimately, they are hit and miss but are still good for swing speed.

When I try something in the sim I always take my own matching club to test it against. Then you just go by the difference, if any.

First of all they tell you to bring your clubs so there is no bias. Sorry gl coach not everyone is hitting 210 6 irons.2nd it is draw bias a 20 yd hook is really 10yds and you can hit blocks but not slices.What is correct is path, clubhead speed. ball speed,launch angle. Larry nelson was in the store hitting hybrids his own with his golg ball and he said there where5 yds off,
