Thin Shots?

Yes, I'm anxious to get on Trackman but don't know of any local companies that rent time out. I know what my face and path numbers are typically but have know idea about VSP and AoA.

What I see is lots of components that just don't fit together.

If you keep the trigger delay, you need to be more behind it at all times.

The grip HAS TO GO.

I think this would be a simple lesson.

From the DTL view, JK's grip doesn't look strong at all to me. What do y'all think? It seems to me that JK's downswing plane line is too steep. Wouldn't he benefit from a more-vertical rather than horizontal hand path on the downswing?

His left hand is extremely cupped, which may be masking it a bit.

If he tried to get a more vertical hand path with a left arm more vertical through impact he would apply a very closed face. The more horizontal the left arm the more open the face vice versa. So, if his goal were to get more vertical with the left arm and hand path he must get the face that matches. Still a great move!

Good point about the cupped wrist. Was hard for me to see that due to the white glove against the white sky.

I'm looking forward to seeing how a more neutral grip will affect the cupped left wrist and the release. The release looks too "handsy", for lack of a better term.

Ok, so I hit about 500 balls today with a very weak to neutral grip. I was pleased with the ball flight. It was high and the consistency was better than normal. However, I took some video and was expecting to see a much different release through the ball. Unfortunately, it looks only slightly less handsy.

It might be hard to believe but I am simply turning through the ball with not attempt to release the club. So the neutral grip didn't influence the release like I thought it would but I'd still like to achieve a tour like release. What would the next step be?

P.S. I'll post up video later tonight.

I wouldn't expect things to change that quickly. 500 balls is like 2 and a half rounds of golf for some...lol. Seriously, it might take a little longer to re-program.

That's why I'm curious to see how a neutral grip would change things on its own.

I'm not a golf teaching pro, but imo adding some twistaway at the top to flatten the left wrist(with the neutral grip), then feel like holding that twist(not adding any) all the way past impact--will feel like holding off the release completely to you.

The club face is not closed at impact and the ball certainly doesn't know what my release looked like afterwards. My ball flight was very straight today so as much as it may look like it's closing....it's after impact.

Just trying to not release is certainly not the answer. How do the pros do it?

A neutral left hand grip and a bent wrist at the top are two separate issues.Just because you neutralise your grip doesn't mean your left wrist will be flat at the top,you can still bend it.Ben Hogan used a very weak left hand grip but he still cupped it slightly at the top.He flattened it on the way down by adding the twistaway on the downswing.JK has his very cupped almost at the point of impact.

With a very strong left hand grip, you cannot use the twistaway without hooking it off the planet.

Golf is a funny game, full of opposites.I bet JK doesn't feel very handsy yet looks it on video. With a Hogan like wrist motion,it will probably feel more handsy but will look less.

Could the fact that my divots are very deep have an influence on the rate of rotation? Many times it feels like the ground is grabbing and twisting the clubface. Maybe with a shallower AoA my release would look more passive.

Well to be honest as you could imagine it felt awful. However, I would look up and the balls were flying very straight so it's worth feeling uncomfortable. "You have bigger issues than that" is why I'm looking for help. I'm all ears, Brian.

I understand and will experiment with delivering a flatter left wrist through impact. Here's the DTL:

Angle is a little off.

It looks much better already to me. I don't think you have to get the wrist completely flat at the top, it has already flattened with just the grip change. Waiting of more from Brian or Kevin or the others.

1. Over rotated left arm flying wedge AND twist-toward.

2. Not enough carry.

3. Upper body is too far forward EARLY and then has to GO BACKWARD late—the reason for your thin shots.

Thanks for the comments, Brian. Everything makes sense but could you please define "twist-towards?"
