what does tiger mean when he says "he rolls his right arm inward so his arms do not drop straight down"?

This full quote is:

"Instead of dropping the club [inside] from the top of my backswing, now I focus on rotating my right forearm down and into my side. That helps me keep the club in front of my body and the clubshaft on the proper plane."

I think this means that, rather than let the right elbow slide down in front of his body on the downswing, he is keeping the right elbow up and back on his right side and letting the right forearm unhinge from there down on top of the ball. I think the picture in the GD article where this quote comes from (December issue) illustrates what he means. This is directly from Jim Hardy (who trained Haney) who believes that this is how Hogan managed to beat his hook. In Hardy's view, jamming the right elbow in front of the body in an effort to let the club "drop inside", combined with aggressive body rotation, will get the clubhead stuck every time. That said, I'm not sure Brian agrees with this analysis based on a comment he made in one of his Hogan audios.

I am a huge Tiger Fan...

So I'm going to issue a storm warning on the right forearm rotating the club out in front of him...If he gets his sequencing with the hips and shoulders right ...he's gonna be toast...I wish they would quit manufacturing alignments and just get them right start with...Now..I'm gonna step out on a limb here...I like Haney as a coach...I don't always agree with his belief system...I love Tiger as a player...

How long have they been working together?

Is Tiger still "crooked" off the Tee?

Do you think they are working on the right stuff?

If ....Yes...

Wouldn't you think he'd be better by now(Driving it... I Mean)?

Then WTF is going on ????

The best change they made was getting him on a shallower plane to drive it better...cause he was gettin to durn steep...which is why the "Stinger" was the bread and butter...

And Yes ...his "SWING" is getting better...but what happened to his "HIT"???

I just know that the dude can just flatout play...that's when I bcame a fan...when everyone started asking questions why he's changing his swing..His reply...I'm just always tryin to get better....Now I admire that from a guy whose at the Top!!!

Do you think he needs to Roll-Out his Right Forearm Flying Wedge?...

The right forearm flying wedge "paddlewheels" ...."Traces"....

The shaft drops behind him...due to his hips being too open..Shoulders too closed during Start Down and the early stages of the Downstroke...combined with an effort of getting in what Lynn Blake beautifully describes as "perverted pitch" elbow ...a navel seeking elbow....

Manufacturing refers..trying too make it happen rather than letting it happen in proper sequential order and spacing...

His arms drop...cause he used to swing them in a more up n down fashion...now he needs to learn to let the Downstroke shoulder turn move them OUT in front of him instead of DOWN in front of him!!! he's got the Down...

Even with that said...He's still my pick...

Tiger only hits it way right when he tries to kill it. I don't know why he does that because he hits it so damn far anyways. When he stays balanced and uses his normal rythym he is usually ok.

I followed him a few days at Disney and everytime he swung out of his shoes, 4 right.

OK Guys. This is obviously a HUGE misquote. Tiger doesn't rotate his RIGHT forearm down into his side! It's his LEFT forearm! This is a big part of Haney's teaching and is mentioned in both of his books. Geez. Don't get lost trying to understand a misquote.

I don't think it was a misquote (I took it straight from the magazine) or a mistake in the article: the illustrating photos were shot from behind and showed the right arm "coming into the right side". There were no photos of the left arm. This right arm move is as much a part of Hardy's "one-plane" swing model (again, Hardy trained Haney) as the counterclockwise rotation of the left arm. Hardy refers to it as "unhinging" the right arm in his 2004 Summit DVD, "releasing" the right arm in his book (pages 84 and 85).

are you saying unbend the right arm from the top of the swing?

His grip is the issue. The weaker position of both hands, and the higher right forearm that results, will require him to 'do' something during his motion.

If he could simply take his new found Rhythm of the swinger, better plane and get his old grip/setup - he'd be better than 2000/2001.

The right wedge...... get back the right wedge Tiger! Looooook at your GRIP and right forearm!

I bet if he focused on left hand only, and right hand only shots and the grips that resulted from each, he'd find those flying wedges again ;)
