Tiger attracted to TrackMan technology

Raymond Floyd is a good analogy. Here's the comparison. Raymond won 4 majors in roughly 30 years. Woods did that in 12 months one time. Seve had 5 majors in 30+ years; Woods had that many in 5 years. Sorry guys but even Raymond and the great Seve can't be mentioned in the same breath. There's just Jack and Tiger...Jack's 18 took 24 years, let's see where Tiger stands in 2020. He has 40 majors between now and then. Needs 10% of them....I still think he's just the right teacher away from being Tiger again. Manzella gets a hold of him, I like his chances!

Sure - but I still think you're underplaying what Tiger has yet to achieve. All but 1 of Jack's major wins came over a 19 year period. That in itself is a miracle of longevity when you look at the careers of some very athletic guys who, to my knowledge, weren't overly troubled by physical injury through their prime. Say, Faldo, Norman, Watson.

Realistically, I think if Tiger's going to do it - he needs to do it over the next 4 or 5 years. 1 a year? Isn't that his career average to date? Gotta ask whether you think he can keep it up (stop sniggering at the back). Or, to put it another way, are his best years in front of him or behind him?

Sorry there Birly I meant to post a reply, not re- post yours...Jacks total major output between 1976 and 79 (4 years) was one. And his total majors between 1968 and 1970 (3 years) was also one. My point is this: He had gaps. The "jack is back" sign on the leader board at Baltusrol in 1980 was just that: Jack was back from his "slump". So we just have to wait and see how long this slump lasts or if we see a "Tiger is back" sign go up at a major soon.

I think the difference between Jack and Tiger is that:

1.) Tiger's slumps in his career, aside from his current slump, were all basically "self-induced" due to swing changes he was making.
2.) Jack never lost his intimidation factor. Tiger has. And against these young guys he'll never get it back.
3.) Tiger always had power and touch around the green. He's not as powerful, relatively, anymore. And that short game is getting "yippier".
4.) I don't think Jack ever got down on himself as much as Tiger has been down on himself since he was "exposed". You've got to be your own best friend out there and it sure looks like Tiger hates himself for everything that's happened. You can keep trying to change things to stay inspired or get better but to me it just looks like Tiger's really alone and just needs something new to occupy his mind.
