I tell you what, Tiger is the best clutch player, I have ever seen. But the issue I got with the rest of the tour, is I think their getting beat by the "mystique" of Tiger right now, not Tiger himself.

When Tiger goes out and beats the snot out of the field at Pebble Beach by 15 or wins the Masters by 12. Well damn't he just was the better man and owned those guys.

But now, he's not even playing that great and guys just seem to roll over and play dead when he's in their group.

Maybe it's me, but I think there is a lack of intestinal fortitude in a lot of the guys on tour. Not mean enough, not hungry enough.

I'm not saying their not trying, but they seem easily broken.

I think you have hit on it big time. Guys like Tiger, Jack, Arnold, Hogan and Watson are very rare they play for the win and their place in history.....the rest are out there to make a paycheck and they make a great living never having won, hell Jeff Quinney has never won a tournament and he's a millionaire. Same reason why I dont think we win Ryder Cups!!!!

Paul, I know how you feel about Tiger:). You want to see others challenge and give Tiger some competition. And that is exactly what we got from the emerging O'hair. He gave Tiger competition all the way to the very last putt!

Would I have tuned in to watch this match without Tiger? Easy answers. No, no, and hell no!, especially with serious competition from college ball. The fact that Tiger was behind by five strokes just added to the storyline. I wanted to be there to see what we knew was going to happen. And to see him slam dunk that last putt it in a fashion we are accustomed to was just icing on the cake.

We really are being treated to something very special,,,to watch the greatest golfer of all time emerge from Mike Douglas, to repeatedly win with drama, to challenging Snead's wins and Nicklaus' majors title. It's been a great journey so far and hoping there is plenty of gas left in the tank to enjoy the rest of the ride. What he has brought to the table for the good of golf far outweighs his dominance of the game. The money, audience, diversity.

Golf is just too boring to watch unless we have a Tiger there to perform his magic...

I know I know...I like that he plays cause there is potential for a better match but...

I am sick of this storyline!

Watching people play poorly is not fun to me at all. Last Wimbledon was awesome whether you were hoping for Nadal or Roger Federer. What if one of em lost the match cause they got injured and played like crap...or kept hitting unforced errors...or fizzled out in some other way...

I'm not trying to really undermine what Woods is doing...he does what he has to in order to win.

I have to think I wasn't the only one who was losing interest.

I was watching it with my family...I had to come up with things to talk about to distract them from their boredom. (and a channel change request)

I was bored too! But optimistically hoping for an O'Hair victory. I don't overly care about the guy...he is just "someone else."

Rats.

I want to see some people duke it out for the top spot tourdeep.

A Real Rumble.

I don't think there was much drama until the last hole or maybe two holes.

A slow fizzle. No sizzle! (I'd insert some Snoop Dogg jibberish if I knew how)

I have to go to bed. I am getting fit tomorrow!

This is how we train in Canada...we don't have any gyms up here eh:

Bird Man, with all due respect, I understand your need and feel for an underdog/challenger to Tiger but there are sometimes that you have to embrace the history and accomplishment of one of the greatest players of all time (not the best yet as Brian suggests until Tiger beats Jack's record). What I am saying is that as I sat near Steve Scott at the NJ PGA Section Spring meeting I couldn't help but think what would be if he beat Tiger in that Amateur? Then again what would happen if Bart Bryant beats Tiger last year? Or Sean beats Tiger in a playoff this year? The legend that we are all lucky enough to witness is not such a legend. This legend is extraordinary and I want just as everyone for there to be a contender to take him all the way but in the end I want history to be made! Bobby Jones, Ben Hogan, Jack Nicklaus, all wrapped up in one. Go Tiger you are great for the sport.

Steve

Bolt I can embrace whatever I want! :);)

If he is any kind of legend at all, a loss to Steve Scott and/or Rocco Mediate (you must've meant him yes?) is not much more than a chance to improve...rather than a crushing, career ending defeat.

BTW if I remember right both of those were great matches. (I think Scott played well and just got run over)

I'm not interested in watching someone amass historical playing records. I really could care less. Trophy ceremonies are boring! Competition is what I like to see and I don't know how it wouldn't be better to see that more often. Tiger's legacy is better for having stood up to some strong play, yes?

To me, the fact of the matter is no one is gonna remember this round...because it was not memorable. They will remember the putt on the last hole and a fist pump (whoopie) and that's about it.

As for having him in the game, whenever he is around the potential is there for someone to step up and actualize themself a good final round so we can have a great match.

Not a knock on self-actualization BTW...I just saw an opportunity to use the word. :D

Where is golf's Nadal!

Touche on your embracing options!! I was referring to last year's Bay Hill when Tiger drained the putt and Bart Bryant...but yes he also drained a putt on Rocco too, just not to win.

I cheer for Tiger because I love golf, not saying everyone has to, not at all thats just how I see it. BTW have had about a zillion Members come up to me and say how awesome the match was. Just saying its good for golf in my view.

Has your snow melted yet?

Birdie_man, I agree with you, it does get boring. The point people seem to be missing,IMO, is it's not a criticism of Tiger, it's a criticism of the rest of the field. They need to grow some.

Over here in the old world a couple of players have beaten Tiger down the stretch and that's become their moniker with the media, "David Howell the man who held off Tiger Woods in the final round of the blah, blah". It's even been stated that European players aren't as intimidated by Tiger as their American counterparts - yeah right!.

Theme tune for the rest of the field: Weak - Skunk Anansie

Ah yesyes Bart Bryant...I can't remember how that match was but hopefully Bart played decent.

It is good for golf as a whole. I think mostly in an 'attracting people to the game' sense. Mainstream appeal. I could care less!

Even though I root against him every time he hits a shot I have no problem with Tiger being on top. He has earned it.

I just don't find it that interesting in itself.

It is your every right though and I presume the round would have been better through the lens of Rabid Tiger Fandom. ;):):p

The snow has been melting pretty well though we got a blizzard today! It won't be long now. (I could probably have hit pitch shots yesterday if I found a good patch of grass)

Yayyyyyyyeee.

:)

Paul for someone who's a Sean O'Hair/Phil Mickelson/Rocco Mediate/Bob May/Ernie Els/Vijay Singh/Sergio Garcia/(insert other PGA tour pro who's been beaten heads up against Tiger) apologist you sure do like to post in all these Tiger threads about why you don't care. Really doesn't make any sense.

It's a privilege to watch Tiger Woods play golf, just like it was with Nicklaus. Tiger like Jack seems to almost be able to will things to happen. I feel the same way when I watch Nadal and Federer play tennis (even if Rafa does seem to be pulling ahead). Or remembering watching McEnroe at the net. Or watching Thierry Henry in his prime. Watching greatness never gets boring.

Nah. I'd rather watch Kobe or Lebron. I'd also rather watch Tiger over Snead,Hogan,Nicklaus. Not saying they aren't great, just saying I like progress and I think Tiger Woods and athletes of today are more fun to watch. I'm a big fan of Eldrick and am a stats geek, so I want him to crush all of the records. Tiger is the best thing that has happened to golf ever.

Im 31, watched Jordan plenty. Not to turn it into a BBall thread, but..I like watching athletes that are 6'9" 270 can play all positions on the floor, jump out of the gym and are pretty likeable. Jordan maybe the greatest player I will ever see in my lifetime, but he could not do the things James can do. For me Tiger is so fun to watch, he hits it all over the lot and still wins. Pretty Amazing.

Who did I apologise for???

"Don't care" about what? I don't understand.

Maybe you could explain.

These threads are fun if nothing else. I have to say something.

........or like Jordan. The game just isn't the same without him.

I would not dispute that.

I've said many a time I don't want him "outta there".....even if I do joke in person about him breaking his knee. :D:)

That awkward bunker shot was a prime example:

"Break a knee Eldrick!" (is what I said)

I should be more careful though I may be giving him karma points!

Hah hah hah!! That's what you get for being hard on Tiger! Maybe you are just bitter because you can't play golf yet!

LOL that you said you post. Because you "have" to post something! You are quite the comedian.

You probably really love Tiger and just post up stuff to get a reaction!

Steve
