Tiger fires Steve Williams?

Steve Williams on Tiger Woods:

Stevie has been very loyal and supportive of Tiger but I guess this has left a bitter taste in his mouth. Obviously he is one of the best in the caddying business but I'm not sure if what he said was warranted considering how much money Tiger Woods has made for him including outside sponsorship deals he would have also got!

I think this is funny, Steve Williams is basically Tiger's butler. He carries his luggage, cleans his equipment and gives complimentary praise to his boss. That is it. It's like giving the bat boy credit for Derrick Jeter's 3000 hits.
Seriously,
Tiger made Williams a very rich man as well as Haney and to a lesser extent Harmon. These men did not make Tiger, he made them and I agree with whoever stated earlier that Tiger is looking to clean the slate for a fresh start and that doesn't hurt anyone.
BTW
I find it funnier that Elin's new boyfriend slept with Rachel Uchitel. She is gonna have to hire private investigators to check out potential men before she can date.

Here's a concept...

Steve (have a hard time calling another grown man Stevie) et al were paid to perform a job. Tiger does not over pay anyone anything. The way those employees show their gratitude is to show up and do everything they can to help Tiger succeed. Payment for services rendered is not gratuity or charity or a lifetime of loving devotion. These are all big boys in a big business - no one has been "given" anything. Tiger needs a swing method. His stint at going it alone was a BIG FAIL. He also needs a caddy. All these folks are expected to perform at his level of dedication - that doesn't come cheap.

The mistake made by these employees was buying into the "friend in me" fascade.

Slightly unrelated... I'm really sad that we never got to see Williams go into the crowd and snatch a camera from THE WRONG GUY. Guess there's not much chance in that when you're only taking things from 140 pounders.

Williams strikes me as the kind of guy who wrestles crocodiles for fun. And shoot I know a few 140 pounders who could take down "the wrong guy" if needed.

WOW

Stevie is not taking the high road so far. His comments about writing a book, seem like an attempt for a payoff to not write a book. I think he's hurting his chances of getting a top 10 bag in the future.

It's kind of sad. He became the richest caddy in the world working for Tiger, and now he's acting all hurt like Tiger owes him something. Saying how all the time off put him and his family in a tough spot. Maybe you should invest that money wisely Stevie, instead of spending it all on racecars. Talking about how after everything came out Tiger would have to work hard to earn his respect back. I'd have fired his ass too, for that alone. I'm sure he is a great caddy. But everyone would be saying I was one of the best caddies ever too if I worked for Raymond Floyd, Greg Norman, and Tiger. You can give all the advice you want, but the golfer hits the shots.

I can't believe my ears... you guys are way under estimating just how difficult it is collecting cameras and passing out room keys.

it's like becoming the manager of the Yankee's; it's more work to fail than just hold on and get credit.

Tiger has gone, in short time, from being the player that everyone wanted to see in contention every week, including me, to becoming the biggest villain in golf. The Barry Bonds of golf, only without the record.

I used to love to see him in contention and watched every shot. Then he stopped caring enough to even practice his short game and started looking like number 125 on the tour around the greens instead of one of the best of all-time. Maybe picking up cocktail waitresses and porn stars was just more exciting than being number 1 in golf.

Firing the caddie is just past and parcel of the whole meltdown.

I'm still a Tiger fan. I think if the worst he did was let his fame go to his head and bang a lot of hoes I can forgive him (he did give Elin 100 million dollars so he isn't a deadbeat dad)As far as being cheap, I think that when a super celebrity doesn't tip crazy like Phil he is considered cheap. I have friends who worked at Doral and they said his gratuities were in line with other tour players, I think like Stevie these low level service employees think they should get more because of who they serviced and in reality cleaning a pair of shoes is cleaning a pair of shoes whether it is Joe the plumbers or Tiger Woods shoes.
I definitely like to debate the what if's of Tigers future but in reality compared to Barry Bonds or Michael Vick or Kobe Bryant or the multitude of other athletes he is a saint.

I guess you have to BE an a%%h%%%le to work for one.
I think most people will agree when I state that we have all worked for A$$holes and we wouldn't count ourselves as one, though to consider an A$$hole a close personal friend would probably qualify to be a member of that team.

On Twitter, Hank Haney speculated that Tiger will have lifelong friend Byron Bell caddie for him. Not sure that can be true, though, since Bell helped set up a lot of Tiger's trysts. Seems like it'd be a bad PR move.

Ian Baker-Finch just let it drop on the coverage today that Tiger gave the OK for Steve to caddie for Adam Scott at the U.S. Open but then at the last minute changed his mind, then fired Steve for being disloyal. Ian Baker-Finch said he has talked to Steve about it. I believe it.

Tiger just seems so lost. Not a real shocker that he and Stevie are no longer a team, but I was a bit surprised by SW's reaction.

At the same time I think Tiger would be a difficult bag to tote, despite the monetary reward. If you haven't seen Tiger in action up close and personal, you have no idea how many "bodyguards" walked with him at every event. My guess it was 6 on each and every hole. Stevie was the last line of defense and probably had to act like the first line. Lot's of guys want to talk a big "caddy game" like they're willling to take on every jack-ass that had bowed up to Tiger in his life as a pro (and I bet there were plenty of a-holes out there that did just that) but would cower down if it came time to "go". Stevie always seemed like the type that would have taken a bullet.

I say put Foley on the bag with video camera in hand....... Is that legal? :)

Still a bit surprised he didn't say "oh well" and move on, hoping that Adam Scott can be the most successful "youngest long-putter user on tour" ever. :)
