Tiger's new move.....(calling Mr. Woods).

Does anyone else think that Woods is trying to hit the ball farther and maybe this is all due to the fact that other players have caught and or passed him when it comes to length off the tee? Is that a far fetched thought on my part? He is obviously thinking about other players length off the tee as he keeps on with the argument for driver testing etc. Last year it looked like at times he was swinging out of his shoes off the tee box. I know at one time his length off the tee was part of his psychological dominance over a lot of the other players. Without that, is the ege he once had gone and he cant make up for it?

Interesting pics in the article too bad the camera angles are not the same, I had heard that Jim McLean has had camera angle issues. I like him and think he is a great teacher, but it is kind of silly for him to mention in the article about camera angles then show us two swing that the angle is not right.

Not that my comments count for anything, but from my POV, I don't think it's a huge fix for Tiger. Right now, his posture seems a little too upright, and he's pushing the handle out on the backswing, which is getting the club long and laid off at the top. All this is getting the club too far behind him coming down. I know he wants a flat left wrist at the top, but it looks bowed right now. Watching Tiger yesterday, you can see him really struggling to square the face up, trying with his body on one shot, his hands on another.

Not so coincidentally, I saw that Golf Channel show about Tiger's '97 win at the Masters. Tiger's swing looked better to me in some ways. He was sort of the other extreme- his posture was a touch more bent over, he kept the handle closer to his body on the takeaway, which got the club shaft steeper going up. This got him slightly across the line at the top, but he was also more compact. He had a little bit of a plane shift coming down, which I know he was trying to get rid of with Butch. Frankly, I think he could go back to doing some of the things that he did in '97 with his posture and hand routing on the backswing

In 2000, I think Tiger managed to get his swing in between what it was in '97 and '04. We all know how well he played. I just don't think that Tiger's posture and and backswing are matching up with his ultra-quick body speed. Brian correctly mentioned a while back that Tiger needs to be more in and up on the backswing, and I agree.

Folks, the guy's still head and shoulders above everyone else when he's on. If he makes some small fixes, I think he's still capable of absolutely vaporizing the rest of the field.

I know he played a bit better today but his swing looks laboured, infact it looks a bit like o' meara - like Brian said.

The club has no flow - His swing used to be all flow and now its an unbalanced jerk. The clubshaft path looks off balance. He used to fire right through as he rode the rim of Edz mind - or in a more educated mind, how dynamic the sequence into impact was in comparison to the way he does now.

Tiger will have to find another teacher - he has a $£10 an hour 2 bit amateur braindead diseased lepar, the knighted 'sir inneptitude', bedwetting of a teacher.... smiles :)

In other words if you get a business card from Hank Haney, do the right thing and put it in the flames of hell whilst you pass to heaven. Shank Haney putts from the rough by the way.... maybe he wants some Tiger ass...he sure doing a good job of buggering him... lol... oh how ambiguous....lol

Well at least he makes a good catchphrase - Woods from the woods with a wood...lol - Hank should of been a comedian....

Maybe ive been harsh - but who cares, its just Hank - his crime is his being and that is also his punishment....

:D Smiles big

I have read your post on Woods swing and your assessment is correct. I am not a certified Golf Machine instructor but I am a player and student of the game and Golf Machine, also as you mentioned Tiger has modified his swing and from my eye and review of the video I have, it has taken a Haney profile. Is it possible you may be able to get your data to him? I believe it would be helpful.

The part about camera angles is important! Especially when viewing the plane.

I have heard that Mr. McLean has the camera on the plane line.(behind the ball, but low)
It seems that it would have to be pretty low to work.

Some of the pictures of Tiger probably look better than others, depending on the camera angle. If the camera is too far behind the hands, the plane will look steep. If it is too much the other way, behind the ball... it will look shallow(plane).

I remember seeing footage of Tiger shot when he was in college, with good camera angles. His downswing at that time did tend to get under the plane slightly. The swing did look to be similar, however, to the one he won the Master's with the first time.

Back to camera angles. The height of the camera also makes a difference.

Brian, or others.... What procedures do you use to get the correct camera positions?

I was taught to position the camera at waist level at the mid point between your feet and the target line when filming from down the line. Face on, I would assume even with the ball at waist level.

exactly what I said....

There is NO WAY to draw lines on a 2D picture and show ANYTHING other than that you can draw a line somewhere...

...more to come on this....

They can LOOK, but drawing those lines don't show anything like what they think they see..

...really, I WILL post a thread on this today....

What Brian means (I think) is that a 2-D image cannot accuratley represent a 3-D action. It is better to stand in a planeboard and see and feel what you are doing than to see it on video.
