What in particular do you find surprising about Donald's yardages?

Tuxen said that they typically see a specific yardage (inside 100 yds) that good players really excell at as sort of a natural number. You expect the #1 to own certain yardages, I just wasn't expecting him to own every one of them.

Luke Donald right wrist bend--

55 degrees last parallel pre impact

18 degrees AT impact

0 degrees when his hands reach his left thigh

Ah, ok. Yep, the boy can play.

He doesn't hold off the release, thats for sure. But he doesn't SEEM to have that much upward movement of the CP into impact and SEEMS to have a lot of supination of the left arm (although you can't see it!). He does however SEEM to adhere very clearly to the Manzella release in regard to the hands.

Teeace: are there any illusions here?

This man is probably the most consistent golfer since Ben Hogan, at least over the last coupla years. I know, I know, I know.....scoring and ball striking are not the same, and he hits it so short he can affort to be less accurate.....Richy3, any stats?

Anyone knows Furyk's driver loft then ? And to the D-plane smart guys - is there a coefficient between loft, AofA and resultant spin ?

Cheers

I would think 3D Spin Loft (not just Trackman's vertical component), Centeredness of Contact, and Clubhead Speed would be the D-Plane factors affecting resultant spin.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong but isn't Luke Donald a statistically poor driver? I don't have stats but seems like I read once that his Fairways hit stat is poor?

Yes. Didn't see your answer and I answered same below. This is how I see it as well

Luke Donald driving distance: 284.1 (147th)
PGA Tour average: 290.9

Luke Donald driving accuracy: 64.29% (57th)
PGA Tour average: 61.33%

Total Driving rank: 127th

Interesting how, when a long hitter doesn't hit that many fairways, but still dominates a year, it's because of his length. Then, what's the reason that a short knocker who sprays it can still dominate? Maybe fairway % is one of the most overrated stats? There doesn't seem to be a need to hit fairways to win tournaments or lead tours.

I'm normally a pretty straight driver of the ball and hit a lot of fairways. This year, I played well in a big tournament not hitting it well, but just missing it on the better side of each hole. The tournament then became all about the second shots.

I would say it has to do with how/where you miss fairways. Yes, Luke Donald isn't particularly long or straight (by tour standards) but how far off line does he miss fairways? I would say probably not by a lot. Depending on the rough though this could be an advantage or it might be the worst place to miss it.

Fairway % is definitely not significant these times, unfortunately. That's why we can't see great accurate ballstrikers today.
And Donald's numbers are very mediocre, as we can see, especially taking into account his distances. Best since Hogan ? Which would mean better than Knudsen, Moe, Trevino, etc. ? Naah.

Cheers

I meant from results Dariusz. When you look at money won, it would seem that the guy has been dominating world golf in terms of consistency for a couple of years now.
