Again, my point is that- "in my opinion" I would hope for a more dominating player record wise and performance wise that the current selections available.

If you look back through this thread, I mentioned that I missed the dominance of Tiger. Luke Donald, Kaymer and Westwood don't resemble that kind of play. Therfore, after Tigers downturn, I feel Luke Donald is not acceptable in comparison. It's simply my wish for a superstar world number #1. If Donald cuts loose and becomes that, then so be it.

So ... who is your no.1 world player right now? cmon ... answer. :D

I honestly cannot think of one player that is hands down better than anyone else and that's the problem. So in order to satisfy your question, I guess I will go Rory McIlroy. I will take his game over the others.

I think the point as I see it (you can feel free to disagree) is that there is no one right now that feels like a number one. It's almost like all of these others in the top ten could share number 2 and leave the number 1 spot vacant.

Somebody will always be the best, it just doesn't mean that they're significantly better than the next guy. We will likely never see a dominant #1, like Tiger was, ever again. Even if Eldrick regains his old form, the field is much better than 5 years ago, and will have closed the gap.

Times, they are a changin'.

I agree

Here's one that will raise a few eyebrows:

The majors will become increasingly less important. Surely you can't tell me that Keegan B deserves to held in higher regard than LD or LW just because he won last week?

Let's think about it for a minute....
The 4 majors were regular tournaments a long time ago. Then the fields for the majors became stronger relative to the regular tournaments and, this coupled with the history, made them special. Now things have changed again in so much as there are so many big tournaments that the majors are not quite so major as they once were.

I see no problem with the No1 being majorless today. And LD is probably the best golfer in the world right now.

See below for an alternative World Golf Performance Index. based on one year. Luke Donald is far away the dominant player this year. His lead is and has been huge.

Tell that to Colin Montgomerie.

How many Jackie Gleason's did Nicklaus win?

i dont think that players have become better now and that the field in general has improved. tiger had a massive hunger to win it wasnt about the money it was a desire to be the greatest golfer on the planet and become the greatest of all time. it is no coincidence since tiger has lost his form that players like mickelson have lost theirs too, it was tiger that brought out the competitive streak in mickelson tiger was the person to beat, and mickelson wanted to beat the best in the game. it was satisfying and it is what drove him to improve. mickelson now has nothing to prove, he like alot of others feel comfortable now that they know they wont have to play at their best every week, without the fear of being totally embarrassed and outclassed by a much superior player. it seems to me not only do the fans need tiger the players themself need him too.

Great golf is being played every week on several different tours. To suggest that the players are less hungry, now that Tiger is struggling, is crazy. That's like saying the Quarterbacks in the NFL cared less when Joe Montana retired, or NBA basketball players lost motivation when Jordan left. Phil and VJ maybe a little less motivated, but that is more likely because they are over 40, have arthritis, back problems and bank accounts north of 100 million.

Motivation? How about the pic of Rickie Fowler striking the Capt Morgan pose with his girlfriend as he's about to board a private jet as he finished off yet another T-18th at Random Tour Event. How's his motivation doing?

And before you say it, yes I'm jealous.

I'm so sick of the Fowler hype. Hopefully we'll hear a little less of it now. If Fowler gets picked ahead of Bradley for the President's cup it will be a travesty.

I would think Bradley, with two wins on tour in the President's Cup year, is in on points alone, no?

Edit: 18th? Wow. As of yesterday, Keegan Bradley is 18th on the points list. I guess plenty of other Americans have been winning majors lately, eh? Maybe the points scheme for that list needs to be reviewed (although, I think it was recently changed).

Wow 18th? That is surprising, the kid should be on the team. Hell, he might even be POY.

Is Couples still standing by his statement of picking Tiger?

A win and a major should be an automatic spot! Daly won majors twice during Ryder Cup years and he didnt get a whiff. Its weird.

For sure, Monty would have loved to have won a major.

I'm posing the question: Will Ricky F feel the same way when he's 50?

Or will he say: "Yea the majors were big back in the day, but these days the %%% Challenge with a first prize of €30million attracts a bigger and better field", before shooting off home in his private flying car.

Daly was a personal mess though. Had he not been a walking disaster waiting to happen he would have been picked but after the first major he was a flaming drunk and the second wasn't much better as he was going through domestic violence issues.

True but I would have loved to see him purely for the intimidation factor. He was Bubba long before it was cool.

Years ago didn't the PGA Champion get an automatic spot on the Ryder Cup team? I thought they changed that rule before the PGA that Daly won.

Keegan Bradley is one of the nicest guys I have met on tour. He was in Chattanooga last year for a Nationwide event and was very nice, polite, informative, etc. Keegan has a great caddie and will have a great career.
