Too much Hinge....

When I started this crazy game, I like most people came over the top and sliced the ball. I corrected the over the top move and now sometimes drop under plane. In addition to sometimes dropping under plane, I also learned to really hinge and roll my left arm. I actually think about leading the left hand with the knot on the inside part of my left wrist, which leads to a closed and hooded club face. Now that I am hitting everything under the sun left, what drill would you guys recommend to assist in not over hinging the left wrist. Thanks for your help.. I'd like to miss right once in a while.

Try rolling it less. Feel like your left wrist drives down and out and stays facing the target during impact and into follow-through.

Its not the left wrist hinge action that is hooking your ball. Your pivot and hand action is out of sync. The left wrist unhinges on plane and that won't cause a hook unless you and your pivot, that body action, is unsync'ed.

Check the clubface at alignment. A simple opening of the clubface at address can do wonders stopping a hook.

Just so you know, divots are straight, so for the most part I appear to be on plane. That being the case, I thought the only way the ball could go left would be a closed or hooded club face, which I thought would be caused by a bowed left wrist, or a horizontal hinge action. Njmp2, when you say I may be unsync'ed, what do I need to do to sync up, faster hands, slower body, ??

Thanks guys..

...or he could be breaking down his flat left wrist.

Yes. Both will cause the clubface to be thrown excessively shut.

Don't let the body outrace the arms and hands. Don't let the arms or hands get ahead of the body. Never let the hands get behind the clubhead. All things you know, right? All these things affect the clubface at impact, it effects the delivery path of the club and hands. Find the ryhthm and pace of your swing. Start small -build up.
