Top things you would tell a golfer with overacceleration from the top

Being a newbie and a pretty good baseball player in my day, I have issues with overacceleration from the top of the swing. This in turn, causes me to sometimes lag the hosel and then I have to stop my pivot and fliparoo it. Result when I square it.....High ball flight that is powder puffed with ugly leakage, result when I don't.. you know the answer. I've had some success with concentrating on not letting my swing center(base of the neck)go forward AND per Kevins suggestion sit more on my right side on startdown(snead squat). For awhile I feel overacceleration will be my problem until I get all of my urge to mash it from the top out of my system.

I wondered if I could get some suggestions on feel thoughts that I can store in my toolshed until I alleviate my steroid jerk:):D Thanks.

What often works for me is maintaining the connection (the left arm across the chest) at the start of the downswing.

Try to start your down swing before you get to the end of your back swing. That way you will not get that little bit of overload, or overswing, which requires (seemingly) that bit of fast hands start down effort needed just to get you back to where your back swing should have finished.

You will appreciate the difference once you feel the lag.

This is how Hogan appeared to start his down swing hip unwinding whilst his back swing (upper body) was not yet completed.

Actually, the back swing was finished but the lag built into his club shaft at transition made it look like the club head was still going back.

In reality, his down swing has started and the handle was moving back down plane whilst the bending (lagging of) the shaft allowed the club head to droop, or appear to be still moving back.

unwind like F**k

Man this is so what I want to do. I look at Sadlowski and all I see is athleticism, unwind and POW, Tiger as well, when he gets the club in the right spot and doesn't move too far ahead of it and fit it in. Maybe I'm screwing up the motion of the pivot. My grip, set-up, posture, backswing- pivot, backswing in general are about as good as it gets IMO and other well qualified people agree. I feel like I'm missing the Dynamicism of the downswing pivot unwind..once again I refer to Sadlowski and Tiger. It's what I want to do, and I know I can, but I don't know how. Timing issue maybe? Can't get the feel for it.

For me this gets my right shoulder over the plane and pull hooks rear their ugly heads. bastards.

Singles hitter or power hitter in baseball?

1. Your hands should be like clamps to the grip. There should be no loose ends all the way to the finish. Smother the golf grip with your hands to finish.

2. Whatever pressure point you prefer to use, maximum pressure in that pressure point at impact. Stop thinking about clubhead speed, think more about pressure. You don't want to have all your pressure and speed on the startdown and then peter out at impact.

3. The Moe Norman advice...'the fastest part of your swing should be your follow thru' (technically impossible, but feeling that can help)

4. Feel like you are taking a full swing and trying to hit it about half the distance you normally do.

5. Footwork. Stay off the toes. Arches of the feet like suction cups to the ground. Feet get 'antsy' and that tends to get a fast start down.

6. Be D-E-L-I-B-E-R-A-T-E

Okay..I'll give this a shot. I reviewed NSA and think that I'm going to try your advice and the hit the box advice for a couple of hours today.

Using your grip, aim you body lines at the pitcher, aim the clubface at third base and hit it over the pitcher.

Ah..catch your drift. This with some hit the box NSA stuff and the good ol' hit the ball low with the hands and high with the pivot. Thanks Martin, I'll work hard at it.

vj,

Still got this problem?...:)

Your issue isn't "overacceleration" (I don't think that beast exists), it's sequencing.....
You can accelerate as hard as you like if your sequencing is correct....

Here's things that have helped me..
1) As per post #2
2) Keep the upper right arm (or right elbow) behind the right hip as an initial thought for the downswing..
3 Try to raise the right heel while the weight is still on it (at the top)...this puts the tailbone ahead of the swing center and transfers weight correctly, before your shoulders get active...

I like "hands are clamps" ala Mike Finney.

For me, the big 3:

-loose shoulders/arms/hands

-LCT

-left shoulder up

Moe Norman might of swung faster (tempo) than Nick Price...! No?

I'm practicing in the living room and I like the hand pressure deal..hard for the club to run away from you if you got that going, the swing center not going forward(via left shoulder going up) and hands staying lower. Me likey the feel, we will see on the range tomorrow how the strikes feel.

Loose As A Moose (or Goose for non-Northerners) and hit it with your pivot should do a lot of good things for (automatically for) you no doubt, singer.
