Hope nobody sent money for the trackman that was advertised through this site in a thread over the past week. The ad looked too good to be true and had some fishy things to it. 1.what is the Red Crosss doing with a Trackman? 2. hotmail account? etc. After contacting the Red Cross the item and person in the ad does not exist. Hows that for a Merry Xmas. Just a heads up.

Thanks Goley.....i was all out of Euros anyway.....for that matter so isn't most of Europe.

If it sounds to good to be true.............................

Man. I'm still hoping Santa comes through big time!

I actually contacted the seller through the auction website. This was his reply:

Hello,

Thank you for your interest to purchase our item.

My name is Jerry Melvin and I work for British Red Cross in London, United Kingdom. We have a few gifts for this Christmas that we decided to offer worldwide.

The price for the Trackman Golf -Ball Flight Monitor is 3500 euros including transport to your home address. Documents available. Purchased September this year is undamaged item in original retail packaging and manufacturer warranty. For shipping and payment we secure the transactions via eBay Security Center. All we need is your full name, shipping address and phone number. In short time you will receive the invoice regarding this purchase.

We believe that will be a great Christmas gift for this price and a fair donation to Red Cross.

Wait for response

I responded with the following:
Hi Jerry,

I have a couple of questions:

1) Why is the seller's name "Patrick" yet your name is "Jerry"?

2) If the "TrackMan" was purchased in September 2010, why does the auction state it is 4 years old?

3) You mention that your transactions are done via "eBay Security Center", does this mean you use PayPal to receive payments?

4) Why are the exact contents of the "TrackMan" package?

I am genuinely interested in purchasing the "TrackMan" off you, but would hate to think this is a fradulent auction (i.e. scam).

I look forward to your response.
Meanwhile, I also contacted the British Red Cross and received this reply:
Thank you for this information, specifically the website name used which will help us in following the matter up.

I can confirm that this is a scam. Nobody of that name works for BRC, we do not use hotmail accounts, and we do not sell such items.

Andrew

I haven't heard back from the seller. Honestly, if he's going to run a scam he could at least match up the details of his auction and emails.

Was just about to post a thread.

From The Red Cross:

"Dear Paul,

Thank you for your email. I can confirm that it is a scam.

Nobody of that name works for the British Red Cross, we do not use hotmail accounts, and we do not sell such items.

Regards,

Andrew,* Risk & Assurance"

:(

Thanks for nothing "Jerry Melvin", if that is your real name...!

Dear Santa (not Horton),

I still want a Trackman golf doppler system for Christmas. Can we make this happen?

Weird thing is that the "seller" did sent me a photo from the serial number plate of a trackman. I checked the exif data but there was none to be found in the image.

Maybe the people at Trackman will have names.

If the dude is as sloppy as he seems he had better watch out.

Scams

One time - I responded via email to a car for sale on ebay or autotrader. Complete scam - and I was curious given the stupidity of the ad etc. - what they thought they could gain?! They even suggested that we use an "on-line escrow" account for saftey - one that was approved by ebay.

Then in the next week or month - my bank called me and was curious if I was using a debit card for my checking account at Wal-Mart in a State that was 2000 miles from my home.

Somehow they had created a debit card, with as far as I know - only having my email address and name.
