Cannot think of one good reason to pull with the left arm from the top as far as my swing is concerned. If it works for you, great.

You are PULLING in this regard from the top:

The club and the arms have speed going back, the body starts to unwind as the club and the arms are STILL going back.

The GOAL of the first stage of the downswing (until the club is about vertical or a little sooner) is to pump energy into THE WHOLE SYSTEM. The force at the hands should go more or less along the hand path during this stage.

So....

You HAVE TO "pull" the club, the left arm, and the right arm, from the top during this first stage of the downswing.
 
Where do you pull the club, left and right arm to? Directionally where does the "pull" take the club, left and right arm? In other words, from the top does the pull go towards the target, away, to the ball?
