Trying the Magic of the Right forarm

I just recently understood what the heck everyone was talking about by putting the RF on plane and using a RFP technique. I tried it 2 days ago during my golf league and although it felt really "weird" to me I had good results. I had great contact but some problem with accuracy - I assume that is normal.

Couple things I noticed in my case was that it seemed to shorten and make my swing much more compact. Swinging "out" was a little more difficult for me; I felt like I was a little more "tense" I was using the "swinging" technique (spinning the shoulders and rotating the hips via the pivot. I think the reason it felt weird is bacause I think I've always been a hitter and was changing to a swinging motion.

After years of doing it wrong - I'm slowing able to incorporate the "right" things thanks to TGM. My chipping and pitching have improved tremendously - I chipped in on 2 consecutive holes the other day - Now if I can just get the putter "in gear"

c2, let the club show you how to take it away. You can use Rear arm, shoulders, even lower body, they can all be effective. Practice doing all 3, some days you may get a better feel doing one over the other.
Get rid of the ball, hell get rid of the club and use 2 dowells, put one on the floor as a plane line, start making little swings with the other always staying onplane. Add a club and start making small no tension swings, dont add anything to the swing, just swing the club with slow rhythm, it will show you lots.

Also working on it.......some days it just all fits, and I can keep the right hand soft and am able to hit with the right forearm.........the next time out I just cant overcome the tendency to firm up the right hand on the downswing and have trouble hooking/smothering

cdog,

I've pretty much tried all that you have mentioned, but not having a lot of success with any of it. It's hard to give up some portions of your swing when to be honest, I score pretty well with what I've got. However, on the days that I do play bad, my takeaway seems to be the problem which is why I'm working very hard on the right forearm takeaway.

hmmm. right forearm pickup with proper extensor action makes me get wider not compact. Are you using extensor action?

I'm sure by saying compact he means a shorter backswing. Both right foremarm pickup and extensor action shortened my swing although I do have plenty of width.
