Jerk....:)

What would be worse is that they go undefeated the rest of the way, and this keeps them out of the national championship.

You really believe they will go undefeated the rest of the way ?

If you do, I have some land in Florida to sell you!!

As much as I'd hope they would, no, not with that defense. What I said was:

"What would be worse is that they go undefeated the rest of the way, and this keeps them out of the national championship."

Meaning that even if they go undefeated the rest of the way, they still wouldn't make it into the national championship game, because their 1 loss would be to a Division 1-AA team. Do you know how bad that would suck?!? That would make this loss 10 times worse.

There's the question of a little game in Ann Arbor the end of November. I imagine the Wolves will come out on the short end of that game as usual lately.

Did you notice the Ohio refugees seem to be the center of the big mistakes that cost Michigan in big games: a missed block on the field goal attempt, a roughing the passer call last year. Inability to tackle the ball carrier on the winning TD a year before?

Maybe they are saboteurs Mr. Tressel sent to AA?

Shouldn't have been close enough for the field goal to matter.

The Columbus papers today are all quoting other D1A coaches saying Appalachian State is VERY good, and has enough speed to have a chance to beat anyone.

Big TEleveN apologists?

Naw, not apologists. They're the defending national champs, if I'm not mistaken. And they clearly had plenty of speed, and are the best team in their division. But it was still a huge upset, one that a lot of people are calling one of the biggest of all time. I don't know if Michigan felt like all they had to do was show up, or what it was. But while ASU is the best in their division, this was still a game that U of M should have won. Otherwise they wouldn't have dropped out of the polls from the 5th spot on the strength of a single loss.

BigWill, the buckeyes played YSU, who Appalachian State beat for the title last year, and honestly just toyed with them. Tressel held the score down, because he's Tressel.

I'm ignoring the insinuation, Buckeye :).

Seriously, though, that's my point. Of course, there's the saying about any given Sunday (or Saturday, as the case may be). But this was supposed to be a tune up, and I think we got caught playing to, the competition. Props to ASU. They came ready to play, and earned a spot in sports history.

When will the Big Overhyped 10 quit playing teams from the South? Having the "biggest lines in college football" is not the answer for BLAZING speed - even against our "little" schools. (Just a little golf ball bustin' from a former SEC player)

Michigan consistently recruits as well as anyone but Southern Cal, Due to coaching, they are consistently mediocre.

After Saturday, a lot of people are saying similar things around here, in regards to coaching. That said, I wouldn't say that they are consistently mediocre, although it feels that way, because you expect U of M and USC to be "there" every year. But I wouldn't go as far as to say that they were mediocre.

As much as I don't want to, defensively, I agree (except at the defensive tackle position; got to be big and strong). When you think of the U of M linebackers, how many have gone on to have good pro careers? The greats like Jarett Irons and Steve Morrison, who were great backers with very high football IQ's didn't have exceptionally productive careers in the pros. The guys who did, like Ian Gold, Larry Foote, and Cato June were all fast guys. I think June started as a safety, and Ian was recruited as a running back. Speed kills, man.

Michigan and Ohio State recruit blazing speed. In the case of Ohio State they were just FAT and sloppy when Florida killed them. They have the speed to play with anyone. Check out the NFL draft.

Glad you pointed to the draft - in the first round, the South had 8 picks at skill positions, the Midwest/Great Lakes had 5.

If "fat and sloppy" was the case, then Tressel should be fired. Getting out coached is one thing, but not having a team in shape and focused for the National Championship game is inexcusable. However, I don't agree with you assessment, the only physical problem OSU suffered from were wind burns.

The crown jewels of midwestern football, OSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, all got TORCHED by truly fast teams. Having speed in the Big 10 does not equate to blazing speed.

And if the Midwest had only 5, OSU had 40% of them, both burners.

Well, let's see- in 2007 Ohio State had 2 first rounders- both speed guys (Ginn and Gonzalez) and 9 total picks. 2006 5 first rounders including 2 speed guys, total picked 9. 2005 0 first round, only 3 total picks. 2004 - 3 first rounders- 2 speed guys, 14 total picks.

Last 4 years- 10 first round picks, 35 total picks.

For the same time period(2004-2007):

Florida 2 first rounders, 21 total picks
Miami- 11 firsts, 29 total picks
LSU- 7 firsts, 22 picks

Should I get you Bama, Auburn and Georgia's counts? FSU?

I would bet in that time period Southern Cal is a clear runaway, with Miami, Ohio State, Texas, LSU next in line.

Hmmm thought this was a golf forum... LOL... Last year everyone gave Flordia no chance against OSU... Flordia killed them... Flordia wasn't even the best team in the SEC only the luckiest... LSU was better just didn't get the luck Flordia did... you have to be good and lucky to get through the SEC without a loss... can't say the same for other conferences
