Guys,

I have been struggling lately with my driver because of snap hooks. Nothing I have tried has worked. I finally got the hook recorded on video with the new casio EX-FC100 On the video below, I hit a pull hook that ends 60 yards left of the fairway. Please help me try and figure out why the ball goes so far left. Thanks for all of your help. kermitm

How about the Soft Draw backswing to help on not being laid off and flat.

That's what these not-so-expert eyes see.

PS Don't worry about the right elbow being glued down to your side. Let it fly a little if you want.

Looks like you have some 'pop out.' That gets the club laid off at the top and the face is getting really closed at impact.

I think your right shoulder is staying up too high on the downswing and this causes you to swing outside-in when approaching impact. Just my "un-expert" opinion.

I am by not means a teaching pro, but here are my thoughts.

Breaking down the problem:

The pull = Closed clubface at seperation
Hook = Closed path relative to clubface

You definitely have to monitor your clubface and make sure it is not too closed during the backswing & into the downswing. Do you use the manzella nuetral grip, if not try it.

In regards to your path you need to swing more left aka NHA. Think of Hunter Mahan. Also you can hit drivers off the deck.

By the way I know how you feel, I have the same problem pop up from time to time. It is no fun at all.

Cool camera.Thinking about getting the FC100 or the Sanyo hd 2000.How does it work in low light?

Nice swing btw.You're doing a lot more things right than wrong.

Maybe a little too laid off at the top but so is Tiger.

How does this laid position cause the low pull hook? I always thought this position would help fight against the hook. Thanks for the help so far.

I don't think the backswing ever causes what happens at impact.The downswing does.The shape of the backswing just influences what you do coming back down.

Your mechanics look pretty sound.Maybe you just need to swing a little less left to get rid of the pulls.Aim just a tad more inside quadrant of the ball.

Get the face and back of your left hand matching each other first. It looks like you"re swinging more than enough left. See what that does first.

These pictures were taken on a very overcast and rainy day. Camera works very well outside in low light but seems to be a little dark in low light indoors.

I probably will get the casio.The latest sanyo is great in low light but too big to carry around discreetly.

You can't really expect a small camera like the FC100 to work well low light indoors.

The backswing certainly can have a correlation to what you do at impact. It all depends on the golfer. Some golfers can overcome a troublesome backswing, many cannot. Somebody with a very closed clubface in the backswing is almost pretty predictable as to what they will generally do on the downswing and at impact. And vice versa. But there are exceptions.

Depends on what you want to do really...as brian said you need to fix your backswing IF you want to keep your current downswing move. if you don't want to change your backswing you have to fix your downswing move.

Essentially you are pull hooking because you are coming from too far inside and instead of swinging out to right field you are opening your shoulders A LOT around impact (for a driver) and this pulls the clubhead LEFT of the intended path and with a closed face you get a nasty pull hook

I would work on the take away first. The club head is moving in to much. More up and less in during the take away. Once you get that fixed work on the club face if needed.

Well put Jim, I thought his back swing movements, although unorthodox in some way, looks workable and is part of his normal moves whereas the pull/hook is a recent development. He could have tried to hit it harder and harder and gradually getting out of shoulder alignment in the down swing. Would you say we are seeing the same thing?
