VSP - Ranges of Reasonableness?

Are there any ranges of reasonableness for VSPs per club? For example, is a VSP of 40-50* reasonable for a driver? I know this might be pattern specific and people that like a steeper plane have higher VSPs (ex. Watson) than guys that swing flatter (ex. Hogan).

I think you want to be in the ballpark of the club's lie angle (as per some earlier posts by Brian et. al). As far as a range goes, I've seen some very good players with Vertical Plane's consistently 10 degrees off that lie angle (with a driver).

Good question; I'm interested to see others' input.

Also, I'm not sure we know the range that Hogan's Impact Plane would have had. He had a flatter look to his "swing plane," but that doesn't necessarily result in a flatter Impact Plane (that which is measured by Trackman & Flightscope)...at least in my opinion.

Thanks. I'm not set in stone with my Watson vs. Hogan analogy, however, I wanted to point the appearance of different patterns and those two came to mind. I also understand that the club itself separates right before impact and the clubhed starts to act like a free wheeling body.

Standard Driver lie angles are now in the high 50's, probably to account for shaft droop. Mike Jacobs told me that 45 to 48 degree angle of attack is what I should be striving for. Of course, I have no way of measuring it now, but I know it felt flatter.

The VSP is the verticality of the sweet spot late in the downswing. Those with a "traditionally steep" swings will tend to raise the handle late getting a low VSP. Ricky Fowler and Co. replace the left arm, lowering the handle through impact getting a relatively higher VSP in
regards to their "shallow swing".

Thanks for asking the question, even though I read that thread, I missed the underlying model part. A question for everyone. Is there a specific name for the the hub-path when using the (replacing the left arm) model?
