Wanna fade...

Brian, I don't get it. Seems like Ben's way is simpler. What's the motive behind you tweak?

Tong,
Ben's way is simpler, but not technically correct in the light of ball contact flight dynamics....
If you aim your clubface at the target you will end up left of target when drawing the ball, and right of target when fading the ball....
Brian is correct...

Ok, so you are saying that Ben's way of hitting a draw will have the ball ending up at A rather than B. Similarly, with a fade, the ball ends up at C.

I'm a little confused as well. Maybe a simple illustration would help me visualize everything. Anyone able to do this?

THanks

Z A B C D

Z is the "letter left of A". Imagine you're hitting from the bottom of this page towards these targets. B is where the target is.

Make sense?

Exactly..

Easy way to clarify it in your mind is that the ball will never end up where the face is aimed at address (when playing draws or fades), draw will be further left and fade will be further right...

Exactly that's why i don't necessarily aim the face at the target, i aim it at a place in between but i still setup the same way.

With Brians method when do you take your grip? Do you line up, aim the club face, and then take the grip or do you line up, grip the club, and then aim the club face?

If I don't change my grip isn't it going to return back to impact in a straight position as normal regardless of how I set it at address? For example, if I aim and swing at C, but made the club face point at B at address won't it just return to point at C again at impact?

When Brian says "aim to letter __ at separation", does that mean at the beginning of the takeaway--separation of the club from address? If so, then you would have to try to return the hands and club face there at impact and the swing path and alignment will cause the draw or fade.

I know my hands, swing path, and alignment are not that good yet and may never be, but it would be nice to be able to work the ball whatever direction you wanted without changing your grip--one less thing to think about.

I like Jim's thoughts....I don't want to have to change my swing..just alter the clubface. For example...par three 185yds pin tucked right...I like to pick a spot in the center of the green and set up to hit it there...then just grip the club with the face slightly open and make my normal swing.
