Weaker right hand question

Tried weakening the right hand. It felt like I could torque harder with the hand more on top, get more on top of it and everything just felt stronger. But I hit 15 driver shanks in succession and I couldn't stop doing it no matter what I tried. Anyone know why?

Dear drewyallop,

Gert right back on the horse !!! Those terrible s____s are IMO, never caused by hitting the ball with the extension of the hozzle (hosel), but ALWAYS by the tardiness of the 'composite positive alpha' motors. In your case it obviously was a combination of how you changed the placement of your right hand on the club AND how much counter clockwise longitudinal torque it automatically (by the physics) put into the club shaft. In your case, for those dreaded 15 driver shots, the total system rotating the face to the closed and square position at impact FELL 45 degrees short due to a collective alpha torque shortfall.

Since I am not a teacher, I will leave the solution OPTIONS to Brian, Mike et al., however, with the driver especially, I am a fan of Mandrins scientific work that shows to my satisfaction that with a lighter grip AND reasonably good downswing dynamics and position controls, the club face , and the torques on the club from the offset in the heads center of gravity MAY provide a significant portion of the alpha torque required. It does in my own personal situation.

COMMENTS PLEASE !!!!!!!!

Right up to and through impact, you should have MASSIVELY DECREASING Beta (at this point in the swing, torque against the plane), MASSIVELY DECREASING alpha (at this point in the swing, torque backward on the top of the grip), and MASSIVELY INCREASING gamma (twisting torque about the shaft closed).

No way in hell to shank it.

Weaker right hand grip will give you less ability to overly INCREASE gamma (twisting torque about the shaft closed).

OK I get it, I know why it happened. I may be wrong but it seems that this force/torque model makes teaching golf a lot simpler. For me the explanation ... "you are not able to apply enough gamma because you have weakened your grip" gives a reason and a prescription. I can work the rest out for myself. And it is not going to take 1000 balls of practice.

But then I have an advantage ... this forum.
