Westwood and Donald

Just look at the Euros at the moment: Lee and Luke, Kaymer, Casey, Poulter, McDowell, McIlroy, Mannasero, the Molinaris, Karlson, Laird, Quiros, Jimenez, Rose, Fisher, and Sergio...any chance the US could keep up in a Ryder Cup match right now? I know where my money would go.

Westwood should have made that birdie putt on 18 the first time round. Looked like he just pushed it. Great finish though - top two in the world playing off to win and be #1.
The tricked up 18th did take some away from it though. Not like the old days where you might get some going for it in two with a fairway wood.

I don't mind the water hazard. They ought to move the tees up way forward on Sunday, though.

It is kind of dumb how the edge of that green rolls off into the water. That shot was very close to being excellent and cost him the tournament.

Some players did go for it and there were some eagles made on 18 (Shane Lowry finished birdie-birdie-eagle).

But the players gave out a lot about Wentworth and Ernie Els took lots of flak.

The slope from back to front on 18 is very severe. I think it is designed to accept a shot from a longer club (i.e. the slope kills the first bounce) but the target is too small.

Westwood's putt on 18 in regulation was a terrible shot. As was the topped tee shot he hit on 16. He was awesome for the rest of the day from tee to green but never putted well.

I just remember in previous years, watching (probably through my rose tinted spectacles) guys fade a nice drive round the corner then going for it with a long iron / fairway wood. Now there is no incentive to hit driver, so the water has also taken away the great tee shot you had to hit to get on in 2. I guess I'm just more impressed by seeing these guys shaping drives and hitting long irons close, rather than them stiffing wedges for birdie. Maybe its just me.

Westwood should have holed that putt though!

Should've said that this severe slope is what made Westwood's shot in the play-off spin off the green.

Leon - think you're right.

Wentworth should not be transformed into a US Open-lite.
