What does the hole in my glove tell me?

big thanks to Matt and Jim

Thanks to both of you. Played today after a short session on the range.

Jim - your advice to move the thumb over just seems really solid advice for me, and easy to do. So I did it. Feels good. Doesn't make my hook any worse. Like it.

Matt - great stuff from you. I got halfway round playing with a couple of swing thoughts trying to get my club less across the line at the top of the swing. A little fed up, I made the more radical grip change that you suggested to get the club more perpendicular and less diagonal across my fingers. I'm not sure yet what the difference is, but felt immediately more in control of the club especially at the top. I felt it also lent itself well to your thoughts of getting the clubhead out in front of you on the way down. I then ran into the best streak of ballstriking of the year and didn't miss a fairway or green on the way home. I know that won't last forever, but I think I've found a grip change that I'll be sticking with.

It's too early to say whether this will make either my gloves or thumbs last longer - but definitely pleased with the results so far.

Thanks again.

birly-shirly,

I heard from an old pro back in the late 80's that you should never wear out your glove. I have made it through 400+ practice balls and an 18 hole scramble and the thumb pad is just starting to show some wear. Two years ago I would have been through at least two gloves in that time.

Glad it helped.

Matt
