What's a good way to make sure you have a good shoulder turn

While at address, imagine there's a wall behind you. Pull your right shoulder back towards the wall. Also, be mindful of your hip turn. I think that sometimes people, either intentionally or unintentionally, restrict their hip turns and as a result restrict their shoulder turns.

i think a good shoulder turn is important. Without a proper shoulder turn you will end up slicing/fading the ball and also might cause alot of power leakage. I'm talking about 50-60 yards difference for long irons.

Coming into or nearing the end of the backswing, move your right shoulder towards the target. It's the last thing you should feel before the down swing. It'll facilitate a 'deeper' turn.

Any shoulder turn vs Hip Turn on the backstroke is mostly static in its stretch characteristics. However, the hip motion on the beginning of the downstroke then further stretches the shoulder turn vs the hip turn in a ballistic fashion.

There are quite a few reasons why people don't have good shoulder turns. Most people do not maintain their abdominal bracing, mainly because they haven't done a sit up in their life, let alone a proper abdominal workout. Another reason is that people's idea of stretching is reaching for the remote control. Another reason is that people have listened to Jim McLean and have their lower body act like it was encased in concrete...etc I could come up with a dozen more...

Ps... Having seen your stroke pattern, that comment about abdominal bracing goes directly to you jenhaoyen. Do this cheesy video 5 times a week for three weeks and I bet you will see an improvement in the stability of your pivot - you might even like the look of your abs too.

Not to worry, it won't hurt as much after the first few times, its just because your body is not used to it yet. No pain, no gain :) Whahahaha

from your address position break your arms up so the club rests on your right shoulder without turning the shoulders yet. now, make a good pivot and pay attention to what it feels like. why does this work? because you have eliminated any arm lift by starting with an arm lift and from there you are forced to move the club with your pivot. lifting the arms can disguise an almost complete absence of effective pivot. i struggle with this a lot.

from there stretch the left arm back out to normal and make a downswing.
