Old MacDonald had a course...E-eye, E-eye, Oh!

Punch Bowl Style 18th Green, Old MacDonald Course, Bandon Dunes Golf Resort, Bandon, Oregon
Links golf—not so pure or simple.

Doak's homage to C.B. MacDonald is much more contrived then Pacific Dunes, but just as fun to play. There is a Road Hole, The Alps, and this Punch Bowl green.

Bandon is a wonderful place to play, stay, and soak up some real golf.

Like I always say, the ball is round and it is supposed to roll. At Old Mac, it does just that.

It is tough to not be jealous but I know you've earned it. Looks like a great time for sure.

16th Fairway, Bandon Dunes Course, Bandon Dunes Golf Resort, Bandon, Oregon
A 350 yard par 4 over the ravine behind me, the hole played 40 mph down wind, and after a triple-bogey 6—without hitting one bad shot—I was running hot enough to drive the green. I didn't, but was hole high 10 yards left of the green, and chipped up a little 20° hybrid to 5 feet. The wind made a monkey of my narrow putting stance all week, and this was no different. I had to settle for a par at one of the most scenic holes in the game.

I managed a 79 at Bandon, which included a 4-putt, two 3-putts, and the aforementioned triple.

This completed the three-day corporate outing I did for Tecala, a major Taco Bell franchisee.

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. San Diego Padres, PNC Park, Pittsburgh Pennsylvania
Nobody ever did more to attend a 34-62 team's baseball game.

I got on a turbo-prop in North Bend, Oregon at 5 pm on Thursday. Took the red-eye out of Portland to JFK. Five and half hours on the plane but only one and half hours of sleep. Arrived in New York at 5:30 am, and found out my 8 am flight to Pittsburgh, the one that would have me picked up by Kevin Shields and taken to our tee time at the pristine Laurel Valley Country Club, was moved back to noon.

Kevin moves heaven and earth to get the tee time, caddies, and two fellow pros who would round out our foursome, pushed back to 4pm.

Delta, those idiots, canceled the flight, leaving me with no chance to make my tee time, and potentially being stuck in JFK all day.

So they put me in a taxi to LaGuardia airport across town, where it took me an hour to get my boarding pass because they spelled my name wrong.

Kevin played with the other two, and I arrived in Steel Town with no place to go. So I went to the downtown Hilton, fibbed and told them I needed to have them hold my bags until I found out when I was supposed to check in, and ate a rotten overpriced dinner at their restaurant.

Lucky for me, student and pal Chad Kosanovic met me at the Hilton, where we waited for Kevin. While we waited we saw Ernest Borgnine, who I didn't even know was still "with us." He looked great at 93, got in a cab dressed liked a million dollars, and was on his way.

The Pirates aren't any good, and neither was the Cracker Jack, but PNC Park is nice. Just don't travel 24 hours on two hours sleep to go to a game there.

A can't miss place in the Pittsburgh area, and a must after a full day of lessons at Sewickley Heights Country Club, home of our own Kevin Shields.

Baltimore Country Club, Five Farms, Lutherville, Maryland
Here I am on the bench with great pal, student, and Manzella Instructor Apprentice Phil Rosenbaum, after a fun match on the Albert Warren Tillinghast designed East Course, pitting Phil and Damon Lucas against myself and Phil's fiance, Tara.

Tara got nine shots on the card, and the team got a half-shot every three hole match at our choosing before anyone hit on that hole.

We started slow, but mowed them down. :D

Don't I look dashing in my Tilley after playing a Tille?

Sorry I missed you at the Pirate game---in your picture at the game I was sitting where your right shoulder is. Yes, the Pirates suck-----that's why we had only 18K there on a beautiful Friday night. But the ball park is phenomenal. That is the only reason any of us go---enjoy the view and drink beer.

Sarris candies is a whole other story---best chocolate in America. And 1 scoop of ice cream equals 3 scoops anywhere else.

The Hilton is in complete chaos---partially completed reconstruction due to bankrupt owner and has been a mess for 2 years. We could have directed you a few blocks away to Ruths Chris or Mortons . Oh well.

And really sorry you missed Laurel Valley. And doubly sorry I missed getting some lesson time with you----But hope to work out some time with the good Mr. Shields sometime soon.

I always tell my friends that are baseball fans that PNC Park is the best ballpark I've ever been to. I haven't been out to the one in San Francisco, but pretty much any ballpark that is raved about I've been to. Too bad such a crappy team plays there. I've played Sewickley twice. Very nice course as well.
