Quick update

I did not have a chance to review the Soft Draw pattern yet, but I did practice and play with the NSA pattern. It was the best ball striking I have had in a LONG time. I took some video and I was approaching the ball from the inside. My miss was a pull or pull hook.

I'm curious why you recommended the Soft Draw pattern. I'm sure your right but I'm curious why.

Also should I try to get rid of my flat backswing? I fight a steep downswing and I have read a flat backswing can be a major cause to a steep downswing.

Thanks!

Here is a video after working on NSA for a few minutes.

I still have a flat backswing but the club does not get as steep in the downswing.

Bump to Brian or any other Instructor.

Which Patterm would be beat suited for my swing? Brian mentioned soft draw in a previous thread but did not list why. I fight a flat backswing and steep downswing. My best rounds played are using NSA but I start to overcook it into a low hook or a big block.

Thanks!

Update -

I have done several practice sessions and played 4 times using the NSA pattern. My scores are 82, 78, 83, and 93. The 78 was my lowest round ever and I was swinging so free it was great!!! The 93 is my latest score and honestly I am not hitting the ball very well. I have taken some video over the past 3 days and my downswing is very steep. My current miss is a pull hook but occasionally I will get a straight ball. I am topping quite a few balls and rarely take a divot. One of the videos I will post is the only slice I hit today. I don't recall what I was trying on the swing but it was ALL bad!!!

Here are a few videos and as I mentioned i'm very steep on the downswing. Any tips or feels would be appreciated!

Thanks

It's an acronym for "bumpy back keep it back." There's a guy on here whose moniker is art who is advocating this.

From what I can tell it means to preset your right hip / take the slack out of the right hip at address. Basically just turn your right hip clockwise slightly at set-up. There's some scientific reason it's suppose to help.

Paul Segerlund advocated this preset of the right hip back in 1970 to help with a slice. I'm sure others will chime in with more info.

Q: one thing that jumps out to me is the fact that you have very little hip rotation, particularly on the backswing. Your hips haven't rotated very much at all in this swing. Was evident also in your previous videos. Do you have a physical limitation that prevents you from getting much hip rotation?

No limitation that I am aware of. I'm 5' 10" 165 LBS and workout a descent amount. You are correct I have very little hip turn but I make a full shoulder turn. This has to be putting a lot of stress on my back!!

Right hip back is one of the elements Brian mentions during the NSA video.

Would that cause a steep downswing with hooks and pull hooks?

Any tips on getting more hip turn? Maybe flaring my right foot out?

Thanks!

I whiffed on this thread for some reason. I personally think the steep is somewhat caused by your under turn and then you "run away" your pivot in the early part of the downswing. You learned to get the club on the ball but tossing the club over your hands. A lot of people would hit nothing but toe slices with your pattern. I think Brian originally recommended soft draw for the backswing help.

Thanks Kevin! I want no part of toe slices!

I was curious why Brian recommended the Soft Draw pattern. I was not sure if it was because I don't slice very often or I needed the elements of the Soft Draw pattern. I do own the Soft Draw pattern and I will review the video today.

I would assume regardless of pattern I really need to work on the hip turn. All my videos for the past year show very little hip turn but a full shoulder turn. Maybe that's why I don't hit my driver more than 230 yards on average....
