Which Model is right for me?

Hi, I'm new to the site. I'm a pretty good golfer (1 handicap), and I am constantly working on my game. Unfortunately, the winters in Chicago give me too much time to over analyze everything. I heard about Brian and this forum from a friend. I've purchased a couple of his videos and I look forward to eventually taking a lesson from him.

I've been taking lessons all winter at Golftec. As most of you are probably aware, their philosophy revolves around the tour player's swings that they have analyzed. I am constantly working on not taking the club inside on the take-away. I mean I struggle with it every lesson. My pro constantly shows me swing after swing of every pro that they have and not one of them takes the club inside. I then watched The Soft Draw Video and Brian is teaching to take the club away under the original shaft plane to avoid a "pop-out". I

Needless to say, I am confused. I've also watched "Never Slice Again". Even though I do not slice, I have had a cupped left wrist through out the entire swing. During the transition, the club gets very steep causing me to hang back and flip at the ball with very little turn during impact. I hit the ball pretty straight, but I am losing a lot of power.

Since it will be a while before I take a lesson from Brian, does anyone have any advice on which model I should model my swing after?

Before trying any pattern just get confessions of a former flipper.
Get rid of that flip first. You must have an awesome short game to be a 1 handicap.

Thanks for responding. I did buy "Confessions of a Former Flipper." Great video. I actually do not flip on smaller swings and anything inside of 100 yards.

Check out Brians Youtube video on Float loading/Laging Clubhead takeaway..I think its Episode 5. Im not sure though, Good Luck. It is Episode 5..Its called Jacks Secret.

Thanks, but won't the lagging clubhead takeaway cause your left wrist to cup more?

I've found it does the opposite, I guess it's to do with the momentum of the club when you get to the top. As JH says - soft wrists. If you can get it to flow smoothly the same momentum helps you float load on the downswing. This is my experience in any event, like you I'm new to this stuff.

I think before ANY advice should be given is for you to describe your misses. What do you struggle with? Can't be much with a 1 hdcp. Long game? Short game? Hooks? Driver?

Since you have seen NSA, Try a little "twistaway" at the top. Or the dribble the ball on the wall feel....if these terms are foreign to you, the best way to "catch up" is to buy the videos. By the way, I am certainly no expert, far from it, actually you could kick my butt up and down the course if we played tomorrow, but if I could start over. I'd learn to feel the weight of the clubhead and learn to get my left arm " up the shaft" better at impact. My 2 cents. Have Fun here..this is the best site.

I struggle with inconsistent contact and distance. I hit it pretty straight. When I am on, I play well and hit the ball pretty long. When I am not, I hit a lot of half shots. If I miss and it is good contact, its usually a block. My divots are pretty straight. My swing usually appears slow, since I have to hang back and time everything. I very rarely hook it.

But you know, the handicap system is terrible. I guess that's another subject.

i used to get lessons like you described. this position, that position, look like this golfer, look like that golfer. uggggh. hell, the ball doesn't know!
i know more about golf now (i joined almost 2 years ago) than i learned in the previous 10/15 years of reading golf mags and listening to line drawers.
stick around, you'll learn plenty.

Welcome!

It sure would be great if you could post your swing. I'm sure a lot of us would want to see your action. I love watching quirky actions that produce good results. To get to a 1 handicap is a pretty darn good accomplishment.

BTW, a dude name Raymond Floyd took the club inside.... don't let your GolfTec guy bend you too out of shape about your backswing path. I'd bet you could beat him on the course;)

By the way, nice shirt man..Had to work late?? Just kidding brotha. Id be interested in what the golf instructors say about the ball position and how that might effect the swing. It looks a little too far back to me, and getting some mid-body hands(at address) might help. Id still like to see LCT. I think it would make you even more dynamic. Oh...Great looking swing man. Thanks for posting. Its nerve racking, for me at least, to post swings for all to see.

I hope this works. This is my most recent swing. The pro likes this one. It feels outside to me like I have a little pop-out. It also feels like I am keeping the face shut throughout the swing.

Your backswing is very similar to mine. There is some pop-out, and then the club breaks up through the plane, into a laid of position at the top.

I would recommend that if you are working on not getting it too far inside, make sure that your left shoulder is still turning deep (it has to feel as though it is still moving back towards the right heel), but work on maintaining a slightly higher right than left arm.

Those Golftec guys must not have any Hall of Famers on file. Too bad.

Anyway, I'd say at least start working on the Soft Draw backswing. The back and forth drill should help too.
