why do driver mishits tend low on the heel and high on the toe?

i remember Cobra made this a selling point of their drivers a couple years ago. they said that most golfers seem to show this pattern of heel mishits being low on the face and toe mishits tending more high on the face.

i've noticed in my own game that my mishits with the driver tend to follow this pattern, but i'm not really sure why.

does anyone have any experience or insight on this one?
