Why do I want to keep the club infront of me on the backswing?

So, so far I applied

1. Stepping on the right foot to initiate the backswing.
2. hit somebody from behind me with my left shoulder during the downswing (no more hitting fat). It's even better when I just let go of my left shoulder.
3. I notice during the downswing the pros keeps their legs close to each other, I think it helped me because I'm no longer kicking it towards the golf ball.
4. I don't lift my hands anymore I kept my left arm close to my body during the begnning of my backswing.

Results..

PW from 110 to 135
3w from 215 to 250
Driver from 250 to 290

missed 1 fairway when I played this sunday..and shot 78. thanks to Bm and people in this forum. Something that I don't understand yet is..why is it important to have my right elbow higher than my left elbow during the backswing...

regarding the elbow question...it only matters for the type of backswing you are trying to make. Mine stays tucked and i hit it fine

For me the right elbow higher works well. If it isn't higher, I tend to have too much left forearm rotation on the backswing.

Ed,

If anytime in the future you feel the need to keep you right (upper) arm closer to your body at the top, you can achieve it without causing left forearm rotation by simply compressing your right shoulder blade in towards your spine laterally (if you were standing upright, the s/blade would move horizontally)....

Yuck!

brian, let me just tell u this.

I went on the range today,
I did the following,

My backswing is already changed due to your help, so
During the downswing I hold as much lag as i can, and then bam hit somebody behind me with my left shoulder.

Guess what, All straight shot and long. I just feel so good, I think when I was hitting the last ball I almost cried. Because I felt so hopeless and now I'm hitting it so well. Quite an emotional moment for me.
Anyways, it's my birthday and I'm helding my annual invitational this weekend, i feel so confident. Thanks BM. You are my secret to success. I don't really know how much I can thank you. I'll take a picture of the tournament and post it here. :)

Thanks for the nice words and thoughts.

Just go out and remember the FEEL when you have it going—and KEEP it going.

Play well and report back.
