Beyond Casey, the pickings are slim.

The depth of the talent in europe is better than ever, look at the following who aren't currently qualifying

Padraig Harrington
Sergio Garcia
Paul Casey
ALvaro Quiroz
Nick Dougherty
Eduordo Molinari
Henrik Stenson
Robert Karlson

Very good friend of mine has attended every Ryder Cup on both sides of the lake since '87 and he tells me that the American fans are far less unruly than the European fans, regardless of what the Euros claim. I think the Euro fans will really let into Tiger if he plays. I also don't think the rest of the US Team likes Tiger all that much...didn't seem that way when he wasn't in KY.

So which American player's wife did the European fans spit at. Oh, sorry that was Mark James' wife who was spat at by American fans. Which European player conceded a match because they were so ashamed of their fans' behavior? Ah, that was Payne Stewart at Brookline after the cr*p spouted by some American fans was so bad that Monty's father walked off the course after a few holes. Ask your "friend" to come up with some equivalent behavior from the European fans, or accept he is full of it. Face it, the American players play with a class that is not mirrored by their fans when it comes to the Ryder Cup.

Umm...I think you are actually agreeing with him. Re-read his post. He said that American fans are "less unruly" (ie. more well behaved) than their european counterparts...

no, he is giving examples of shameful behavior on the part of american fans

I thought I had typed it in there, but one of the things he did say was that '99 at Brookline was the exception. That came up because we are both born and bred NY'ers and hate Boston and their sports fans, so my reply was 'go figure.' :)

Yes, one year at Brookline. Of course, that means every year the American fans are awful monsters

It's like thinking NFL fans are more unruly than futbol fans over in England because in Philly they have a court in their stadium.

Ryder Cup fans may not necessarily be golf fans. I find it hard to believe any golfer would act like that unless there was money on the line.(joke) It is interesting that it has become such a major sporting event. Prior to 1981, it was hard to get players to play on the team. Weiskopf turned down a spot to go bighorn sheep hunting in 1977. If you want an event to become big, which it has, it will attract non-golfers who will respond differently. I think the Welsh will be appropriate and treat the U.S. very well.

An idiot is an idiot no matter what side of the pond they are from. Seems like it should be pretty easy to support your side without being a dumb @ss. Cheer loudly for any good shot your side hits and be silent when the opponent does something.

I hope some Cardiff Football fans get in there and give the US team and their wives both barrels. Let's see how they like being on the receiving end of it.

Tiger seemed in an awful good mood at press conference today. Sounded like a golfer that might of figured something out with the help of Sean Foley. Could be a good week for Tiger.

Espn now has a story up that says Tiger wants to be on the team and would accept a captain's pick (but still hopes to play his way on to the team), and they also say that Pavin told the golf channel that he *will* pick Tiger if Tiger does not qualify.

Europe is doing themselves a disservice by having the qualifying process set up to heavily favor European appearances.

Justin Rose?
Paul Casey?

Need I mention a lot of others playing the US Tour who are consistently in the top 70 in earnings. Fredrick Jacobson, Brian Davis, Greg Owen, Martin Laird, etc, etc...

Hi conk,
My post is very vague, my bad. When I say a joke I mean the politics and method of the selection. I'm from Europe, and because of the politics and selection process, Europe will have a much weaker side than it should.
How can you pick E. Molinari over Rose or Casey.
So yeah .. your right about Justin rose.. and the other 3 or 4. :( .

I like the idea of picking Molinari in order to pair him with his brother, but don't understand picking Harrington over Casey or Rose. Harrington has not had a great match play record recently, while Casey has, and Rose has had a great year so far. Rose could still (theoretically) win the PGA Tour's player of the year award (if he were to win the FedEx Cup), and would not have even made it onto the Ryder Cup Team...
