It was worth the wait

trying to break 100.. was very difficult for me

with surgery (many) that i have had....its hard to swing a club

I have never quit on anything in my life.....did not even scare me 3 years ago

when after heart surgery the dr. said you came within 30 seconds of dying

so today I had a good feeling....no need to go thru the "hole" round but

I hit 9 fairways......4 g.i.r I went to number 17 a par 3 with a score of 88

2 holes left 11 shots to break 100.....

17- par 3 175.....hit 4 wood left off green......bad chip up....3putt for dbogey.went to 18

18- par 4.....hmm not sure how far...about 390...driver about 200

3 wood rolled in between sand traps to edge of green....2 shots used out of 6 for 99

i was right at edge.....of green...chip or putt??.....i was about 35 feet....decided to putt

hands..putter knees...shaking ..( honestly unusual for me..cuz i usually have NO FEAR

said Howard..don't decel keep the club moving.......putt on the way....felt good

looked good....looked real good.......stopped inches from the cup.....my friend says

its good let me pick it up for you.........i said...YOU TOUCH THAT BALL.. I WILL BREAK BOTH YOUR ARMS....LOL.....HE LAUGHED...ok H putt it in............

the thing that happened next i want to share.....as i slowly walked to the ball

i was thinking so many things....abt when my dad and i used to play golf.....

i thought about how i have watched EVERY video of Brians on youtube....

How i went through and read probably about 3000 of his posts......

i stood over the putt....took off my hat....looked up to my dad

and said POP....this one is for you......from inches.....CENTER CUT

I did it....me..Howard....i always knew i could....just never knew if i would

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

Howard,

I know your Dad would be proud.

Just as I am.

Congratulations! Couldn't happen to nicer man.

Ahahahahahaha.

Merry Christmas!

Obviously one of the best posts ever. I laughed throughout reading it.

Congrats H.

Enjoy it!

Take away flubbed chip(s) and 3 putt(s) alone and you are approaching 89...

Good man Howard. With your goal in sight, you played the 18th in style.

I hope you realise how many golfers would like to be able to say that.

YOU'RE DISQUALIFIED ...!!!!!!!!!:eek::eek::eek:

On the 14th, your drive was a biiig banana slice and you couldn't find it in the rough ... so you just dropped another ball in the fairway and played on .... you didn't take a stroke and distance penalty ... did you ...!!!!:confused::confused:

Fess up now, and just confess your 97 wasn't a legitimate score ... God is watching ... believe it.:mad::mad:

Are you joking with this Steve? A guy accomplishes a goal and you put this in the thread. Sad.

good way to keep people from posting on this site. SteveT is the pitbull that makes the neighbors walk on a different street.

Way to go H. You can talk me through the whole round when we next speak.

2011 will be a "kick ass" year for senior golfers.

Nice going. At 67 with some physical issues, you would fit nicely into our Seniors League.
The beauty of this game is the handicap system. Conquering the 100 barrier
can be just as satisfying as shooting even par. We see this in our League.

I wrote the software for the league and have the data for the last year's 60 events.

This may be interesting. We have 212 members, but only 117 played more than 10 events.
Here are the handicap stats. We do our own simple handicaps. It is the average of the last 5 events played. These guys are from 58 to mid-80's with the expected assortment of physical issues. The golf league is keeping a bunch of guys alive.

Handicap #Players
0 - 10 10 8.5 %
11 -15 17 14.5%
16 - 20 40 34.0%
21 - 25 43 36.7%
26 - 36 19 16.3%

So only 27 players regularly break 87, and so on. Generally the flight break is 20 and below are 1st Flight and 21 up are 2nd Flight. Something like 90% of these players won some money during the season.
