I doubt our little phone chat had anything to do with it, but I am proud of you and your dad would be too. Now, consider just enjoying one shot at a time and embracing the attitude of gratitude even when the number at the end isn't a milestone.

Why stop at breaking 90, when you can easily break 80 ...

Assuming you play on a 6000 yard golf course and you can control your shots from 150 yards in ... that means all you need is 40 strokes (6000 ÷ 150 = 40) to reach all the greens, theoretically. You get the idea.

Add 36 regulation putts and you score ***76*** .....

All you need do is shed the trouble clubs .. like the driver down to say the 4 iron ... and you should be able to navigate the course in under 80 ....:D

Thank me later .....:p

Or, thank him never. Silly math. Suspect he's teasing.

Again from our league. The prize for most improved handicap went to a guy that
improved 8 strokes in a year.

The best idea was from the person who suggested enjoying the moments and the
really good shots. However, it should be easier to improve from 100 to 90, than from
90 to 80. You could find 10 shots on short game and putting.

Why do you mislead struggling golfers who try to manipulate golf clubs they cannot hope to handle .. together with their wrist hinging or whatever ...???!!!!

If you can't manage a golf course while learning to play, you will forever be hunting for lost balls and then trying to extricate yourself from the rough and sand. Just tell the golffing world the truth ... most of you guys can't hit a driver worth a snot ...!!!!

Ah, when did I say that? How's about reacting to what I wrote. I mean the silly math point. My point is that you can't divide total yards by 150 and come up with a useful result. This is because any par 4 over 300 yards requires 3 shots to get there, not 2.
Par 5's over 450 require 4.

"If you can't manage a golf course while learning to play, you will forever be hunting for lost balls and then trying to extricate yourself from the rough and sand. Just tell the golffing world the truth ... most of you guys can't hit a driver worth a snot ...!!!!"

I said that?

I guess the point comes back one of SteveT's original posts where he explained that he has constructed his game around shot control and sacrificed distance. Something about not being able to break XX score because he's not long enough. Now he wants the struggling golfer to give up the Driver, and play 150 yard shots from tee to green.
That assumes that said struggling golfer can consistently hit an iron 150 yards and control the shot. Doubtful.

Now I will agree that the vast majority might be better off hitting 3 wood, or even 5 wood off the tee. However, this is not realistic. I think for the vast majority, score is not what keeps them coming back to play again. It's accidentally hitting it pure a couple of times a round, or those few holes where they make Par or Birdie. The Driver thing is just doing what the other guys do. Automatically pull out Driver.

Poorly received as this advice was from SteveT, I actually tend to agree.

NOT the part where it says it's EASY to break 80, but 90 is certainly do-able provided you have enough distance to play the course and manage your shots well. If your driver rarely goes more than 150yds then it will be much more of a struggle as you'll be needing to hit it well every time.

Same big deal as you might feel if you regularly shoot 75 - 80 and break par.

There are plenty of golfers out there who have never broken 100. AJ is no longer one of them.

Good post.

Really good post. Is it not all about perspective? Getting better is all relative. As long as you are headed in the right direction. My league handicap for our nine hole league was one this year. I carried a zero for most of the year two years ago. I am a better player now by far thanks to what I have learned here. Notice I said player. Not putter.
The ball does not seem to want to go in. I am hoping I have sorted that out a bit too. In 2011 we will see.
